Our latest research at Shiva Foundation, conducted in collaboration with Wilberforce Institute and West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network, highlights the critical need to integrate cultural competency into support services for modern slavery survivors. This work was made possible through funding from Modern Slavery and Human Rights Policy and Evidence Centre and Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). By building trust and making systems more accessible, we can develop key strategies to more effectively combat exploitation. This article offers valuable insights into the need for enhanced approaches to tackle this global issue, providing essential strategies to strengthen our responses. I often hear from individuals deeply interested in Ukraine's affairs that the Revolution of Dignity was a CIA-orchestrated coup against a "Russian" rule-based system within Ukraine. 🕵️♂️🇺🇦 While I understand this viewpoint and acknowledge that intelligence services worldwide work towards their national security objectives in such scenarios, I respectfully disagree with the notion that this was an #American-led coup. 🇺🇸❌ It was, unequivocally, the people of #Ukraine. 🇺🇦✊ These were people yearning for what we cherish in #America: the fundamental right to the pursuit of happiness. 🗽💫 Such happiness remained elusive under a #Kremlin-backed regime, with citizens at the mercy of corrupt officials and oligarchs. 💼🚫 And let's not forget, this wasn't the first uprising. The Orange Revolution of 2004 is yet another instance where the Ukrainian people stood tall against the same oppressive forces they faced a decade later in 2014. 🍊🔙 After waiting a decade for change, only to be met with more of the same, the people's patience wore thin, and in 2014, they said, "enough is enough." 🕰️💥 Little did they know that soon after, #Russia would annex #Crimea and instigate conflicts in Donetsk and Luhansk, leading to a full-scale invasion eight years later. 🇷🇺🚀 Despite these challenges, the Ukrainian spirit of freedom and justice for all remains unbroken. They continue to resist, embodying the true essence of courage and resilience. 🛡️🔥 Let's never forget their struggle and the ideals they fight for. #SlavaUkraini 🇺🇦🌟
Today we honor the memory of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes - those who were killed during the Revolution of Dignity in the struggle for democracy, human rights & freedom for European future of 🇺🇦 Those, whose memory will always be alive. Eternal memory and glory to the Heroes! 🇺🇦

America Forward’s 2024 Campaign Paper highlights essential policy recommendations to support national service across the country, including the critical need to fully fund AmeriCorps, address barriers to participation in national service, and strengthen ties between policies that advance national service, education, and economic mobility. By leveraging national service, policymakers can bolster civic engagement, nurture future leaders, and address critical challenges – including support for under-resourced schools and communities – while strengthening our democracy and social fabric. As Juneteenth approaches, Calvert County is proud to honor the remarkable contributions of African American soldiers who served in the United States Colored Troops (USCT) during the Civil War. The Calvert County Department of Planning & Zoning, Historic Preservation, in collaboration with the Calvert Historical Society, is driving an ongoing historical preservation initiative to highlight the stories of these unsung heroes who helped shape Calvert County and American history. Through detailed research using service and pension records, Freedmen’s Bureau records, census data and historic maps and imagery, this project brings to light the significant, yet often overlooked, contributions of African Americans to the county’s history. Research findings have already revealed the profound impact these individuals had in shaping the community. Often having to escape enslavement to volunteer, these men served, fought battles and many returned to establish institutions that remain pillars of our community to this day: from churches and schools to the living legacy of their descendants. These stories reinforce the lasting influence of African Americans on Calvert County’s culture and society. Residents are encouraged to contribute to this historical preservation effort by sharing any information they may have about their ancestors who served in the USCT. Your stories, documents and artifacts can help enrich the project and ensure that these heroes receive the recognition they deserve. Read more at https://ow.ly/KqfN50Sl29z.

Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day, a day to celebrate and honor the Indigenous people of the land we call home. In the words of Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, “To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it.” For parents and caregivers looking for resources and age-appropriate activities, we recommend the article "Five Ideas for Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day" from the Smithsonian Magazine, https://lnkd.in/eWkUTM49
