Capable of providing heating using either hot water or refrigerant, they are typically supplied with low temperature hot water (LTHW). Ever heard of a buffer tank? It's a part of a low-temperature hot water (LTHW) system that stores heated water. Here's how it works: When the boiler, heat pump or other heat source produces more hot water than needed, the buffer tank holds onto the extra and can extend the life expectancy of your heat source. Then, when you need more heat, the buffer tank releases that stored hot water, keeping the temperature steady and ensuring you always have enough hot water.
