Just got home from a long day at the Google Cloud Summit in London. Whilst this was a fabulous event, filled with exciting feature updates, Google updates, discussions and fireside chats, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how overwhelmed I felt today. Google Cloud team did an amazing job at organising the day - it was clear from the detail of the on-site branding and sheer number of people who had flocked to the Summit. But, despite a wonderful event, I couldn't help to feel overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of excited founders and attendees. So, I thought I'd explain a few things people (not just Google Cloud) can do to create a more accessible and calming environment at events for people like me. 1. Quiet Zones. Please implement quiet zones or quiet rooms at large conference. You may have had one, but I couldn't find it. 2. One way systems. To be honest, it felt like everyone was walking in every possible direction around me today. The queues for the food tailed back, with queues for the merch hub intercepting the food queues. Queues upon queues. I suggest creating a human traffic flow, a one way system around the venue with clear signage. Oh, and mark the floor with exit routes :) 3. Live Captions. Interprefy are one of my favourite companies that help you do this. 2 large screens either side of the stage, translating the conversations and producing live captions. Common Google Cloud, can't Gemini help with this? 4. Print your agenda for me! I loved the idea of a digital agenda Google Cloud, but my QR code on my lanyard didn't take me to the right page. I couldn't find the right information quickly, and ended up walking in circles, asking everybody I could see with a Google t-shirt for help. BUT, please let me stress - today was great.
