MeerWissen Initiative’s Post

💭Why is co-design in ocean research essential to stimulate action for the ocean and people?🌊   With the intention of linking research and sustainable development, an increasing number of funding programmes and global initiatives such as the UN Ocean Decade are supporting transformative processes and placing emphasis on the elements of co-design.   Co-design - an “iterative and collaborative process involving diverse types of expertise, knowledge and actors to produce context-specific knowledge” (Norström et al. 2020:183) distinctly emerged as the most prominent success factor of MeerWissen. It transpired from the initiatives’ focus on “partnerships of equals” and describes the joint development of research projects by all partners as well as the inclusion of relevant local community, science and policy stakeholders from the very beginning of project onset.   This video is dedicated to voices in Africa and their co-design experiences of transformative ocean sciences in support of sustainable development.   🎥 Tune in to learn more about scientific “partnerships of equals” based on the idea of a co-design process and get to know the MeerWissen partners. https://lnkd.in/dttnd9_N
