We were so fortunate to work with Tina to take a refreshed look at the data on corporate #regenerativeagriculture (RA) commitments, and are delighted to offer this summary to the broader community!
- CPG targets are laying exciting groundwork, with 68 out of the largest 100 food companies having mentioned RA in sustainability targets, summing up to 40.5M acres and >$3.2B of investment committed.
- While these may sound like big numbers, it's a small fraction of the total food systems footprint represented in our set. Foundational gaps remain before these internal targets can catalyze a regenerative transition at scale.
- For the world's largest food companies to meaningfully engage in all the #climateresilience, #soilhealth, and #socialbenefits RA can offer, we'll need to see a progression from siloed incentives to holistic supply sourcing strategies + clear integration of RA principles into robust Scope 3 commitments
- RA leaders are those that move from single-brand or single-crop targets with fixed annual budget carveouts to whole supply shed sourcing initiatives with robust cost share, transparent MRV, and clear internal sponsorship.
Another step closer to building a world where RA is the new BAU - let's run with the momentum, push for bold action, and keep the CPGs accountable along the way.
CREO is excited to publish a public summary of our commissioned consultant study by Tina Owens tracking #regenerativeagriculture targets set by the Top 100 global food companies. The study found that while 68 out of the Top 100 CPG companies in the world have specifically mentioned regen ag in public-facing documents or interviews (up from 58 in the spring of 2023), there is an enormous amount of variability across metrics used, acreage targeted, and dollars deployed to support such goals.

5moThanks for shining a brighter light on corporate regen commitments - very helpful. + Proof that regen ag reports don't need to be 100+ pages to be insightful! 😏
