By end-2026, the last public golf facility could close. In contrast, there will still be 12 private facilities. This is a stark contrast to 2006, when there was a peak of 17 golf facilities – 13 private and four public – in Singapore. Yes, golf will become a "sport" for the rich and not accessible to the average person in Singapore if it can only be played at country clubs. CNA previously reported that Singaporeans and permanent residents had to fork out S$500,000 to become a member of Sentosa Golf Club, while locals had to pay S$300,000 for a Singapore Island Country Club. Housing and other amenities for the masses can be build over these golf courses. Some interesting figures came from Estonian Golf Association, highlighting the growth and impact of #golf #tourism in Estonia. 📅 Year 🔄 Rounds Played 🌍 International Players 2021 139,319 7,711 2022 148,068 20,568 2023 152,644 28,706 For context: Each golf round averages 8km in Estonia (considering both 9-hole and 18-hole courses). This means a total of 1,200,000 kilometers were walked on Estonian golf courses, with international players contributing 77,000 km (as they predominantly play 18-hole courses). A conservative estimate suggests that one golf round contributes around €250-300 to the Estonian economy (excluding golf fees ranging from €70-130). In 2023, the revenue generated by golf tourists in Estonia was in the range of €7 million to €10 million. These figures underscore the growing appeal of Estonia as a premier golf destination. Welcome to the Green Sports Alliance, Taiwan Green Running Race Alliance! 💚 🏃♂️Four prominent road running organizing bodies in Taiwan have launched the Green Running Race Alliance with the support of National Science and Technology Council and the assistance of National Tsing Hua University. This Green Running Race Alliance is supported by Taipei Marathon (Taipei City Government), New Taipei Wan Jin Shi Marathon (New Taipei City Government), Taiwan's Rice Heaven Tianzhong Marathon (Changhua County Government and the Shukang Recreation Sports Association), Chinese Taipei Association of Ultrarunners and H2U Sports Biji. Together, these five entities have decided to join forces to promote the environmental sustainability of running running events. 🤝 The initial stage of this alliance is to carry out joint marketing. The Taiwan Alliance would promote the environmental sustainability of each event, encouraging runners to collectively support and recognize these efforts. Another important task of the Taiwan Alliance soon is to establish a set of criteria for an environmental sustainability certification for running events.
