3 tips for Early Career Teachers on the first day with their primary-aged class: 🌟 Stand at the door - greet the parents, carers and children in your class! (This may seem like the scariest thing in the world, but from my experience, it's truly appreciated. It starts to develop those positive working relationships and reduces first-day nerves all round!) 🌟 Routines, routines, routines! (Worry less about the content you've planned to teach and more about establishing those strong routines and boundaries. This will develop a safe and secure learning environment moving forward). 🌟 Be kind to yourself. (Some things may not go to plan today but everything will be alright! Remember that you've passed one of the most rigorous training courses to be here. You've got this!) #earlycareerteacher #primaryteacher #ECT

Today I was talking with a college counselor about how underrated study skills are. It got me reflecting on how seemingly mundane lessons from school can prove invaluable in our careers. For me, it was 6th-grade Study Skills class where we were taught "how to highlight" (aka don't highlight the entire page) and had to submit a printout with our highlights as homework. It felt like I was learning nothing (you mean I could just highlight anything and there was no correct answer?), but years later I still use it, not just in note-taking, but also in flagging Important Action Items in long documents so nobody misses them =P Now I wanna share more of these stories with our students! What's a skill you were taught that seemed meh in school, but became really useful in your professional life? #StudySkills #CareerDevelopment

Why is it important to let kids fail? As an educator, I'm seeing a worrying trend where kids are not learning that it's okay to fail. While it's understandable to protect their safety, we've become so politically correct that kids aren't being taught the valuable lesson of failure. The problem with this is that when they leave school, they struggle in the real world with rejection. As a training academy, we help youngsters find work placements to progress either into a job or apprenticeship. Employers are saying over and over again that at 18, we're teaching basic employability skills. It's time we start teaching our kids that it's okay to fail, learn from their mistakes, and grow from them. My thoughts on this is that it needs to change the only people we are damaging is an generation of kids with no resilience & that is so very sad I'm curious to know what other educators and employers think about this. Let's start a conversation about the importance of failure in a child's education. #education #kidshealth #rejection #politically #itsoktofail

Fun facts about me… 1) I’m a first generation college graduate, no money was put aside for my school & I had to figure out how to pay for it by myself (as do many people). This didnt stop me. 2) I didn’t plan to go to school I originally wanted to be a professional skydiver and become an instructor (35 solo jumps and had my A license at 18) 3) I ended up graduating with honors with 2 degrees while being a stay at home mom of 2 children, despite not going past the first semester of my 9th grade and being forced to get a GED because my HS diploma from a homeschooling academy wasn’t accredited. 4) I searched for 6 months following my graduation and the one job I didn’t “officially apply” for ending up being the position I got and interviewed for because I sent an email stating my interest and my resume. 5) I have a career that I LOVE. And everything I wanted a few years ago I have. Don’t let your doubts and fears hold you back. Nothing is impossible and don’t forget to remember when you wanted all that you currently have🙌🙌 #inspiration #happythursday #imadeit #funfacts #dontstop #firstgenerationgraduate #wemadeit #workingmoms #firstgenerationgraduate #unstoppable

📚 By embedding careers into the primary curriculum, you can bring learning to life and help pupils make the connection between what they are learning, and the world of work. 🌎 Primary pupils don't need to know exactly what they want to be when they grow up, but by enriching their learning with real life experiences, you can expose them to the opportunities available to them in the future and keep their minds open to the possibilities. 📝 If you are unsure where to start with career-related learning at primary, take our short quiz to help you reflect on your school’s current strengths and areas for development.
