URMIA - University Risk Management & Insurance Association Conference was fun, insightful, and inspirational. A few favorite sessions- Complianec Roundtable, Large Universities Roundtable, and *Contract Negotiations- Key things to think about with Sandy Mitchell, Twane Duckworth, Joseph Russo, and Kathleen Viveiros, MBA, CIC. This session was packed. Couple of takeaways: - Always review your requirements on a consistent basis. Look to see what the market is doing and amend accordingly, while still protecting the risk the institution is facing. - Minimizing your institutional risk while navigating when parties can’t meet requirements Also great to make some new friends in the industry- Zachary Cardoza, Wayne Martinez, Benjamin King.

As Q3 is rapidly coming to a close attending the RIMS Tampa Bay Chapter luncheon last week, the Florida RIMS Conference in August, and having team members in town last week provides some great reflection on a couple of things. 1) I appreciate face to face interactions and networking more these days because the majority of my work is virtual. I don't take these opportunities for granted and find myself being very present. 2) I love how productive and focused I can be working from home but you can't compare the infectious energy of being in person. For those working in a remote world- this is your nudge to do a bit of local network (even if just one a quarter). You won't regret it! #remotework #riskmanagement #networking

I’ve been thinking about the balance of vulnerability and discernment in my personal and professional life. By thinking- I mean increasing my level of awareness of the interplay. The big points- - Be Authentic- it’s vital to be real with your thoughts and feelings - know your context and audience with that - Embrace Uniqueness- Everyone is comfortable sharing different things, levels of openness, and different risks - this is positive - Sort Through Your Thoughts First- if navigating a situation or emotions it is necessary to take a moment or two to process on your own without external influence What are your thoughts?
