The average rate for applications per job increased 137% in 2023 compared to 2022 ◼ The workforce is feeling the effects of leaner staff, with most (82%) performing tasks outside their job duties and working more than regularly scheduled hours (79%) ◼ Top motivations for job changes are growth opportunities, more money and a new challenge. ◼ 63% of organizations are still actively recruiting and 37% anticipate their number of open roles will increase in 2024.

It's not all doom and gloom! I recently shared a poll asking people for their outlook on financing & growth in the Biotech sector as we move further into H2. Admittedly it was a small cross-section from a localised network, but the indications were vastly polar with 39% holding a more positive outlook and 39% seeing the sector as more challenging than ever, with the remainder more neutral. As a specialist recruiter in the sector I have a somewhat unique and privileged perspective to network across sector and meet with clients BEFORE they start hiring. So, what am I seeing? ⬆ An increasing interest in candidates who are highly aligned to businesses EVEN if no roles are CURRENTLY advertised 💲 More 'good news' stories surrounding funding, take Myricx Bio and Grey Wolf Therapeutics as examples 🙌 Businesses reaching out for support with benchmarking, with plans to grow over the coming months 👀 More Life Science recruitment agencies trying to pinch me from Michael Page (don't worry, I'm not going anywhere!) Yes there are still redundancies, restructures and vast challenges around funding, however anecdotally of course the signs are seemingly positive.
