It’s not for everyone but a small team has been doing the unthinkable while you were sleeping 👉 getting waist-deep in live streams of wastewater. It’s all part of the mahi needed to connect our massive Central Interceptor tunnel to the Ōrākei Main Sewer at our Tawariki Street site in Grey Lynn. To make that crucial connection, the crew need to build a chamber around the Ōrākei Main Sewer. It’s intricate work involving the installation of a temporary plastic flume to divert flows and allow excavation to kick off underneath. Once the chamber is built and the Central Interceptor is ready to accept wastewater from the Ōrākei Main Sewer, the flume will be removed and flows will cascade down into the Central Interceptor tunnel then along to Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant. A percolation soakaway test, conducted according to the BREDigest 365 standard, is a procedure used to determine the suitability and efficiency of soil for the construction of a soakaway system. Soakaways are drainage systems designed to manage surface water by allowing it to percolate into the ground. The test measures the rate at which water drains through the soil, which is critical for designing effective and sustainable drainage systems. The test has to be done with the dimension of 250mmx250mmx300mm and sidewall of the test pit should be protected and only at the test pit bottom surface the water can be penetrated into the ground. Atleast 3 times, the test to be repeated and average value has to be taken finally the percolation value Vp will be determined.

This post highlights aspects of Caltite's application in HATS Stage 1 and 2, specifically focusing on its role in deep tunnel construction and sewage treatment structures. HATS Project Stages: HATS Stage 1 (2001): This stage addressed Kowloon and north eastern Hong Kong Island's sewage, using a deep tunnel system for conveyance to Stonecutters Island for treatment. Key features include 23.6 km tunnels reaching depths of 150 meters and Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works, one of the world's largest chemically-enhanced primary treatment plants. ☑ #Caltite Stage 1: 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Protecting reinforced #concrete in direct contact with the raw sewage against sulphuric acid, acid attack and high salt water. The Las Esclusas Wastewater Treatment Plant, located in the southern area of Guayaquil, Ecuador, is part of the "Project for the Universalization of Sanitary Sewerage." Initially, the project team specified an elastomeric membrane system for waterproofing the concrete structures.
