It’s not for everyone but a small team has been doing the unthinkable while you were sleeping 👉 getting waist-deep in live streams of wastewater. It’s all part of the mahi needed to connect our massive Central Interceptor tunnel to the Ōrākei Main Sewer at our Tawariki Street site in Grey Lynn. To make that crucial connection, the crew need to build a chamber around the Ōrākei Main Sewer. It’s intricate work involving the installation of a temporary plastic flume to divert flows and allow excavation to kick off underneath. Once the chamber is built and the Central Interceptor is ready to accept wastewater from the Ōrākei Main Sewer, the flume will be removed and flows will cascade down into the Central Interceptor tunnel then along to Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant. CONVENTIONAL WAY OF CONSTRUCTING SEPTIC TANK IN HIGH WATER TABLE AREAS IN LAGOS. This system of building septic tanks and soakaway pits is totally not workable. It always fails as water will seep in from the surrounding areas. Why? The base is cast after sinking of this concrete case. There will never be bonding and detaching of the base from the vertical walls is guaranteed. HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE 1. Excavate the area of the septic tank and soakaway pit 2. Install dewatering pumps and blind, lay reinforcement for casting the base, build formwork for the base, ensure you have starter bars for the 4 side walls 3. Cast the base and allow for 4-5 days during of the concrete 4. Install the reinforcement for the walls 5. Install the side formwork 6. Cast the walls 7. Allow for 4-5 days of curing of the concrete walls 8. Backfill the area around the tank 9. Install the reinforcement for the top base 10. Install the formwork 11. Cast the slab 12. Allow for 4-5 days of curing 13. Ensure you have made provision for a manhole to access the tank in the event of evacuation. ALTERNATIVE TO SEPTIC TANK AND SOAKAWAY SYSTEM However, in the areas of high ground water, septic tanks are not recommended. This is because regular evacuation becomes necessary or fitting a sewage pump to pump waste water into the public drain system. What is best is a BIODIGESTER. A Biodigester is simple and very effective system to deal with your soil waste. Total absence of evacuation.

Philippines’ DPWH finishes two river protection projects in Agusan del Norte These initiatives, with a combined cost of 270.2m pesos ($4.82m), were designed to reduce flood risks along the Aciga and Kalinawan Rivers in Barangay La Paz and Barangay Poblacion 1. One of the projects included the construction of a 390m concrete dyke, extending from Aciga River in Poblacion 1 to Kalinawan River in La Paz, completed at a cost of 144.75m pesos in May 2024.  The DPWH has also finished the repair and reconstruction of a 357m road dike along Aciga River, with an investment of 125.45m pesos, in Barangay Poblacion.
