Dear Young Industrial Engineer currently working #letstalk No-one else knows the place you working at better than you do. You are the one who is inside that organization. Yes sure you are hired for a specific role or Graduate Program. However think in terms of Pain points. What or Whose pain point can I solve today. During the Operations/Production meeting listen to people's pain points and see what you can do about them. Most likely the company you are working at is not the only doing that kind of job, research how other companies are handling that problem. Sure shout when you need help but research, research for yourself. The internet is full of information. Thomas Edison says: " Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." Which is very true. Back in 2007/2008 I think there was about 6 if not 7 of us doing our intership at that Tier1 Automotive supplier company, the OEM was helping their suppliers implement Lean, they called it Toyota Production System. All six/seven of us had an opportunity to do a project and submit to the OEM to receive a certificate in Toyota Production Systems. But if my memory serves me correct only one guy submitted. My dear friend found a project and followed the process to submit to be certified. Did the rest of us not have projects? No, we had projects, we just didn't feel like doing the work required for submission to be marked. Heck, One of the projects I did on standard times led to me doing a project on #SMED which then led me to Production planning. But I didn't submit. I missed the opportunity to be certified. That place was full of opportunities from Raw Material Stores, Production Planning, Despatch, Maintenance, Chemical Plant. I think another fortunate thing was that, there were Mechanical, Industrial and Chemical Engineering interning at that Period we learned a lot from each other and collaborated with each other. Look around you and find opportunities for yourself. "One opportunity used wisely can change your life dramatically." "Success is where preparation and opportunity meet." The demand for manufacturing talent across the country is growing exponentially. There's not enough skilled labor to accommodate the needs of manufacturing. In this video, Adam J. Yoder, Industrial Training Specialist at Pennsylvania College of Technology explains how Pre-Apprentice programs are part of the solution. The Penn College Advanced Manufacturing Pre-apprenticeship (AMP) Program is designed to increase knowledge of manufacturing concepts and skills, and to expand the number of prospective employees choosing manufacturing-related career pathways. The AMP Program teaches pre-apprentices both foundation theory and hands-on skills to prepare them with entry level skills for many manufacturing occupations, such as a CNC machinist, mechatronics maintenance worker, plastics process technician or team lead. Did you know? In 2023, there were over 59,000 active apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing. The White House and U.S. Department of Labor are investing more resources to increase and improve RA Programs in advanced manufacturing through the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Sprint. Organizations looking to start new apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing do not need to reinvent the wheel. There are Competency Frameworks available on the Registered Apprenticeship Standards Library that can guide grantees creating apprenticeships in this sector with access to work process schedules and related instruction outlines. New RA Occupations to Keep an Eye On Here are three approved RA occupations to keep an eye on as advanced manufacturing continues to evolve: Robotics Technician: Installs, operates, tests and repairs robotics systems, machines, and components. Additive Manufacturing Technician: Maintain and repair additive manufacturing and 3-D printing equipment in their industry. Piyush, don't just skim the surface—dive deep into the subjects that pique your curiosity. Build a foundation strong enough to withstand any engineering challenge. Aim high, set ambitious goals, and let your passion drive you. The journey is as important as the destination! 𝟮. "Toolbelt Generation" Shows Up in Large Numbers This Fall 🛠️👷♂️👷♀️ The trade industry is experiencing a resurgence as Gen Z turns towards trade schools as an alternative to traditional four-year universities. WyoTech, a trade school specializing in auto, collision/refinishing, diesel, and welding, has seen a surge in enrollment, reflecting the growing interest in skilled trades. Summary of Key Information: 1. Rise in Trade School Enrollment: * Gen Z increasingly opts for trade school, leading to the nickname "Toolbelt Generation." * WyoTech has reported record-high enrollments for Fall 2024. 2. High Graduation and Employment Rates: * WyoTech reported an 85% graduation rate in 2023, up from 77% in 2018. * 77% of eligible WyoTech graduates were hired in the industry, with 458 students placed in jobs in 2023. 3. Shift from Traditional Four-Year Colleges: * Growing recognition of the opportunities in trades challenges the stereotype that a four-year degree is essential for career success. * Gen Z acknowledges the stability and earning potential of jobs requiring technical training over a university degree. 4.
