I don't think it's black and white like choose family or choose career.
I think it might be in a situation where you choose career for a little while to build up your skills and knowledge and put yourself and your family in position to be financially stable, then scale back a bit on that front to spend more time with family and friends.
And sometimes you may need to scale back on career and other things to take care of family members.
It's not always a perfect balance. Sometimes, you have to push hard in one area, but don't let the pendulum swing too much to one side for extended periods of time. For a short while, it's ok to drive hard in one area and re-find balance as soon as possible. Balance doesn't mean exactly 50/50, balance looks different for each person.

When you get all the money you were chasing.
When you get the fancy job you fought hard for.
When you get everything you worked years to obtain.
You'll realize that those things never fully bring you joy. Your family is what brings that.
If you don't make them a priority on your way to the top you'll find yourself celebrating alone - and that's the loneliest place to be.
These decisions are generally made by people living in controlled neighbourhoods. However, areas like mine that are historically affordable for new homeowners will disappear to rental units. What these changes actually mean is that the house next to me (that is for sale) can be bought, torn down and rebuilt into a 4-unit townhouse that is no longer required to provide parking spaces. There will be no place to park on my street, no sun in my yard, and potentially 16 neighbours living 5 feet from me. I am all for more housing however, adding incentives for developers to utilize the empty lots in the city's dying areas for apartment buildings would be far more beneficial to the city, the renters and the economy while leaving older neighbourhoods to answer the ever-growing problem of unaffordable home ownership.

But what if we could reframe our challenges and cultivate gratitude instead?
As I've grown in my career, I've learned the importance of focusing on the present - the good things, the small wins, and the experiences that bring a smile, even on tough days.
This shift in perspective has been a game-changer, allowing me to move forward with a more positive and productive outlook.
This week, I'm grateful for working with an amazing Learning & Development team at iPipeline. They are very good at fostering positivity even on the toughest days. 😄

How many tips can we squeeze in one tip? I did my best :) Because as a group psychotherapist, I know how groups have everything that their members need. We are all auxiliary egos for each other, and the question is: Can we play together?
Thanks to Dr. Franz for having me in this episode. I always learn a lot from Tim, and I think the way we collaborate or co-create each time is a great example of how our strengths and weaknesses come together to achieve our superordinate goals as a team 😍
