100 Years of Harappan Discovery — And We Still Can't Read Their Script ⚠️ It’s been a century since Sir John Marshall announced the groundbreaking discovery of the Harappan civilization, one of the most advanced ancient cultures ever found. Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were thriving cities with complex systems of governance, trade, and even sanitation—thousands of years ahead of their time. But there’s a worrying fact: we still haven’t deciphered their script. In 100 years, despite the work of brilliant archaeologists like R.D. Banerji, Daya Ram Sahni, and Mortimer Wheeler, we remain in the dark about a key aspect of this civilization. The inability to understand their language means we have only scratched the surface of who the Harappans truly were. What knowledge, warnings, or wisdom could they have left behind that we simply can’t access? As time passes, the concern increases that we may never fully understand this mysterious culture. With every year, the Harappan script continues to defy us. What if we’re losing crucial insights into our shared human history? It’s a sobering reminder that despite technological progress, some doors to the past remain firmly closed. But is it a door we can still unlock? #LostHistory

Lemba identity and lineage is traced through the father. Yes, in Lemba tradition, lineage is traced through the father. This patrilineal system means that a person is considered Lemba if they are born to a Lemba father. This practice helps maintain the cultural and genetic continuity of the Lemba people. ### Importance of Patrilineal Descent. 1. Cultural Identity: - Patrilineal descent ensures that cultural practices, traditions, and heritage are passed down through generations, preserving the unique identity of the Lemba community. 2. Community Cohesion: - This system fosters a strong sense of belonging and unity within the community, as family ties and heritage are clearly defined and respected. 3. Endogamous Marriages: - Encouraging marriages within the Lemba community helps maintain cultural purity and continuity, ensuring that traditions and customs are upheld. ### Challenges and Adaptations. - Modern Influences: - As societies evolve, there may be challenges in strictly adhering to patrilineal descent, especially with increasing intermarriages and changing social norms. - Balancing Tradition and Change: - It is important to find ways to honour traditional practices while not succumbing and adapting to contemporary societal changes. This balance helps to ensure and keep the Lemba culture vibrant and relevant. ### Promoting Patrilineal Heritage. 1. Educational Initiatives: - Teaching the younger generation about the importance of patrilineal descent and its role in preserving Lemba identity can help maintain this tradition. 2. Community Discussions: - Engaging the community in discussions about the significance of patrilineal descent and how to navigate modern challenges can foster a deeper understanding and commitment to this practice. 3. Cultural Celebrations: - Celebrating Lemba heritage through festivals and events can reinforce the importance of patrilineal descent and strengthen community bonds. By focusing on these aspects, the Lemba community can continue to honour and preserve our unique cultural identity. “Muelekanyi” Ishe MER Mathivha-Seremane: The Lemba Nation.

🌍 Reflecting on History: Imagining a World Without Colonization 🤔 As we navigate the complexities of our global history, I can't help but wonder: What if our world had evolved without the impact of colonization? The ripple effects of colonization have shaped our societies, cultures, and systems in such harmful ways. Since I was a girl, I have had a vivid vision of my mom free on the lands. She's running in a field across to the Sayisi Dene annual gathering. Her hair is wild and free and her spirit is joyous. She is innocent and without harm. When my mom and I talk about this vision we both get teary because what happened to her after 5 years old was far from this vision. The vision brings me often to thinking about her if colonization hadn't harmed her. Let's open up a dialogue on this thought experiment. What aspects of our world today might be different, and how can reflecting on this history inform our present and future? 🗣️ I invite you to share your thoughts and perspectives. #SayisiDene #Denesuline #CaribouPeoples #Oursharedhistory #History #Colonization #Reflection #GlobalPerspective #ImagineThePossibilities
