This is an intriguing situation that presents us with a profound opportunity for self-reflection. It is understandable that we may feel a sense of comfort and security when atrocities occur in distant lands, affecting individuals who seem far removed from our own lives. However, it is crucial to recognise that cultural discrimination and impunity of power cannot be contained or isolated. While we may be quick to condemn the horrors inflicted upon women in other countries, we must also confront and address the pervasive misogyny that exists within our own society. This insidious issue manifests itself not only in our institutions and business practices but also in our daily interactions and cultural norms. It is easy to rationalise and justify these injustices based on economic considerations, but when they occur in close proximity, we feign surprise and seek refuge in the illusion of civility. However, we have the power and the responsibility to do better. By choosing to confront these issues head-on, we can create a more just and equitable society for all. #ShameMustChangeSides
