Avoid these outfit patterns! There are some patterns you want to avoid when choosing your outfits for your next photoshoot. ❌ Small dots ❌ Small stripes ❌ Houndstooth pattern ❌ Gingham (checkered) pattern These patterns may warp in the camera, showing as wavy lines on your outfits and it can be distracting in your photos. I recommend choosing outfits with solid colors or large patterns but most importantly, your outfits must be comfortable and make you feel amazing! A frequent question I get asked as a headshot and branding photographer is "What should I wear?" During the pre-shoot consultation, I go through different options with you. A skirt and blouse option is a perfect combination for the woman looking for a more feminine style. This outfit here is a great example of a monochromatic look, using different tones of neutral beige throughout the outfit. Wear your blouse tucked in to accentuate your waist line and add a belt for extra detailing. I'm no stylist, but I can tell you this: the outfits that you choose for your shoot are just as important as location, makeup, props, +your photographer! 🔽 5 Tips from the stylists I work with: 🎁 1. A white shirt that's been around the block won't look any better on camera than in real life. 🎁 2. Oversized outfits only accentuate the weight you're trying to hide. Rather flaunt the good areas than focus on covering up. 🎁 3. Buy a few new outfits or pieces, or hire a stylist. The investment here will serve you way past your photoshoot. 🎁 4. Brand colours are great but you don't need to dress in them from head to toe. 🎁 5. Branding photography tip! Think of the sun as a bit of a love/hate relationship! Does this make it our frenemy?!?! Of course we need to be lit in a way that shows off how amazing, strong and confident us entrepreneurs are, but the last thing we want to be doing is squinting, scrunching up our faces or be blasted with a weird mix of unflattering light and shadows. ☀️ Turn your back to the sun! In most instances this can give you a beautiful back light, giving your hair an ethereal shining glow, while also giving your face a soft and flattering light. ☀️Stratigic sun placement! Position yourself and the photographer so the sun is blocked by a building, tree, or in a pinch…. Someone very tall! ☀️F#@k the rules and just go for it. Put your self in the blasting sunshine but…. There are still some guidelines. -Make sure sunshine is on brand.
