What started out as an idea for a “David-Gilmour style” guitar solo in my head somehow morphed into a string piece that, after a few days of tweaking and tinkering, ultimately became this: my first string quartet. Despite my tenure as a violinist in 4th grade school orchestra, I’m not super familiar with string notation, so would love to hear what people think, especially string players. Do I need to include bowings and other articulations, etc.? Also, man, has the sound of MIDI come a LONG way in the past 20 years! Also also, the main pressing question is: what do I do with this now? For people who have experience publishing music online, what settings, permissions, etc. are you comfortable with? https://lnkd.in/ee5qUsD9

Meanwhile, it's very much a part of human nature to seek similarities among phenomena rather than focusing on differences, laying the groundwork for change. Sometimes, this inclination is justified, especially when attempting such comparisons seems unimaginable. Take, for instance, the question: What similarities exist between Opera and Jazz? Instead of assuming there are none, consider how George #Gershwin made an attempt to reconcile these two genres with his creation, "Porgy and Bess." What makes "Porgy and Bess" somewhat similar to #jazz is its incorporation of jazz elements into the operatic form. Gershwin infused the score with blues, jazz, and spiritual influences, creating a uniquely American sound. The opera features syncopated rhythms, improvisational passages, and harmonic progressions reminiscent of jazz music. Additionally, the characters often sing in a conversational, idiomatic style that reflects the vernacular language of the time. While "Porgy and Bess" is not a traditional jazz work, its fusion of operatic and jazz elements makes it a notable example of how these two genres can intersect and influence each other. From Audience Member to Performer: Translating Live Music Inspiration into Artistic Creation Last week, I had the privilege of attending a Love and Rockets concert, an experience that immediately sparked my creativity. Today, I'm excited to share the result: my cover of their iconic track, 'An American Dream.' This project exemplifies the dynamic relationship between live music experiences and artistic interpretation: Immediate Inspiration: The energy of the live performance provided new insights into the song's emotion and delivery. Historical Appreciation: Seeing music legends perform their decades-old hits live reinforced the timeless nature of well-crafted songs. Artistic Interpretation: The challenge of capturing both the recorded version's nuances and the live performance's energy in my cover. Industry Reflection: Observing how established artists adapt their music for modern audiences while maintaining their core identity. This experience underscores the vital role of live performances in the music industry, not just for audience enjoyment but as a source of ongoing inspiration for fellow musicians. I invite my network to discuss: How do live music experiences influence your work, regardless of your industry? How can we translate inspirational moments into tangible outputs? #MusicianLife #LiveMusicInspiration #AlternativeRock #ProfessionalMusician #MusicBusiness #ArtisticProcess #CoverSong #CreativeInspiration"

Music is a huge part of our Reconnect Weekends. It is so powerful. We talk a lot about living in the present, and music has a magnificent power to bring us exactly there. There’s not many people in life that can say they don’t like any music. And I’m sure many of you reading this have even played an instrument, or at the very least sung the odd happy birthday or two. We could go into the science of the benefits of music, but I’m pretty sure most of you know it already 😉. One of the things we like about making music an integral part of our weekends is that it’s often not expected. Which is exactly what life is about. The surprise of each moment, the spark of emotion that’s really felt, the discovering of something new. We were delighted when we saw Snoop Dogg had joined LinkedIn, music is definitely missing here. Which in the spirit of Reconnect we would like to change. So here’s a beautiful piece for starters: https://lnkd.in/d-kPkPD3 ‘It doesn’t stop to think where should I go. It’s just following its flow downstream, downstream. It doesn’t think too much of where it should next go. It’s just following its flow downstream, downstream. I wonder, can I be like the river?’ The River, Alexia Chellun P.s Our May weekend in Norfolk is booking up fast, please get in touch if you’re a business leader who could really do with a break (and some more music in your life) right now. #wellbeing #music #thepowerofmusic #reconnect #reconnectweekends #theriver #alexiachellun

New Release from Bernhard Living - From Here to There https://lnkd.in/ecqY5KWD The ‘From Here to There’ album consists of three experimental tone-based compositions that explore the use of different harmonic structures in non-traditional musical forms. Composition 2023.02 (Untitled) consists of a single line moving in semi-tones and minor thirds - within a pitch range between A1 to C3. It suggests never ending permutation and endless movement through time. Composition 2023.03 (Untitled) is based on a seven-note tone-cell of C - C# - D - D# - E - F# - A# - and which appear as two-note and three-note chords - with the chords repeating from moment to moment. Composition 2023.09 (Untitled) is based on the chord sequence (changes) from John Coltrane’s 1960’s jazz composition ‘Giant Steps’. The title "From here to there" as a philosophical concept that encapsulates several themes and interpretations. Philosophically - this phrase can signify the process of change and transformation. It highlights the journey from one state of being or understanding to another. This can be related to the development and evolution of ideas - or broader social changes. It can also refer to the passage of time - where "here" represents the present moment and "there" represents the future.
