I’m a designer at heart and it’s what predominantly my role entails. That said yes over the years I’ve noticed the trend of design/marketing intersecting and I’ve embraced it. Becoming a marketer also has helped me take my skills and job to the next levels. Truthfully designers have always needed to market their work, ideas, skills, etc. I think we’re just hitting a point where marketers are being asked to have design skills too, thank you Canva. While some do, the designers turned marketers will always have the true edge in better designs and user experiences. They are 2 unique fields but learning both will make you into a better marketer and better designer. I truthfully see them as peanut butter and jelly roles!
As a passionate graphic designer who is applying to many jobs right now, I've noticed a concerning trend in job listings: the expectation for designers to double as marketers. While I deeply respect the importance of marketing, it's crucial to recognize that graphic design and marketing are distinct fields with unique skill sets. Graphic designers bring visual storytelling to life, creating compelling and aesthetically pleasing content that aids in the marketing process. However, we are not marketers. It's essential to acknowledge and respect the specialized expertise that each role brings to the table. Let's advocate for clearer distinctions and fair expectations in our job roles. #GraphicDesign #Marketing #JobSearch #DesignMatters

You're right, graphic design and marketing are different fields, but they have a lot of overlap. Strong visual design is essential for effective marketing campaigns. Many companies are looking for designers with some marketing knowledge or marketers who understand design principles. This can be a good thing for both designers and marketers, as it allows them to create more well-rounded campaigns.

Providing service through storytelling. Using marketing and communications to enrich people's lives by building an audience's affinity with a product or service.
When I’ve shared graphic design job postings to colleagues this has been true. I noticed the requirements for entry level graphic design gigs can be tough too. I agree with the sentiment. The workflow and skills required for marketers and graphic designers are unique to those fields. This is an interesting perspective and I understand the overlap of tasks. The entry point into creative projects can be different. That has been my experience when collaborating with such talented designers. I’d love to know what others think about this. Especially, folks that are designers at heart. 😊

Marketers and designers are 2 different positions!! A marketing specialist is in charge of long-term growth, creating brand awareness, and building client relationships. A designer will take these ideas create print or digital materials and ensure they follow the brand guidelines. A marketing designer is a job that exists, BUT this is not an entry level position! This is a senior role, and should be compensated as such. WHY THIS IS OFTEN CONFUSED is because an effective marketing specialist would know a little bit of design and an effective graphic designer would be knowledgeable in marketing! As a designer, I find the most growth in knowing what my marketing colleagues are doing, because it reduces the communication gap between me and the client. I understand what the marketer is asking quickly, and the marketer would communicate better when the designs don’t fit the brief and why. —— See also: - Graphic designer VS UI/UX designer - Graphic designer VS Project manager - Graphic designer VS Illustrator - Graphic designer VS Product designer - Marketing specialist VS Data analyst - Marketing specialist VS Sales agent - Marketing specialist VS PR specialist What roles are your job often confused with?

Speaker Relations and Communications Manager | Google Mentor | Trainer | E-commerce Advisor (World Bank) | ex Intel
Who Are Most Likely Not to Work as Full-Timers? 1. Media Buyers & Google Analysts: These professionals can set up and run campaigns just once, leaving them with plenty of free time for the rest of the month. Their main tasks include adjusting ads and collecting results. The more skilled they are, the more campaigns they can handle, making full-time jobs less rewarding. Since their expertise is in demand from various countries, they often prefer hourly rates over full-time positions. 2. Graphic Designers 🧑💻:Graphic designers are creative individuals who need a variety of projects to stay engaged. They have the capacity to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and can easily become bored 😑 with static work, making full-time roles less appealing. 3. Motion Graphics Designers: Similar to graphic designers, motion graphics designers are highly sought after, even more so than their graphic design counterparts. Their work is often paid per minute of video editing. Given the potential to earn the equivalent of a monthly salary (e.g., 30k, 40k, 50k) in just 3-4 video editing projects, full-time positions may not be as attractive to them.
