The Commonwealth Government’s expanded Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) will install an additional 32 GW of renewables and storage by 2030. This more than doubles the wind, solar and storage that we have built over the last 20 years in just 6 or so years. But it isn’t enough to get us to the Government’s legislated 2030 greenhouse gas abatement target, writes Professor Michael Brear, Director of the Melbourne Energy Institute. Britain could fail on green energy ambitions without significant investment According to new analysis, Britain is set to miss its clean energy targets for 2030 without substantial investment in green energy infrastructure. At Eltom, we recognise the critical importance of developing our renewable energy infrastructure. This is why we’ve invested significantly in training all our engineers to install and maintain solar PV systems. Through the adoption of innovative new solar capture technologies, we have already helped numerous businesses and homes transition to solar PV, supporting their journey towards sustainability. We are committed to continuing our efforts to work toward a more sustainable future - find out more about how we can help your business to meet its sustainable energy ambitions: https://rb.gy/4cpuvp #SolarPV #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #NetZero #RenewableEnergy Read the full article in the guardian here:

In a win for Australia’s clean energy future and proof of our impact, Chris Bowen MP announced that the next auction of the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) will seek 6GW of renewable energy rather than 4GW, and 4GW of dispatchable power (energy storage), rather than 2GW. This pushes the government's ambition to 10GW of dispatchable energy, just 2GW shy of our recommended 12GW in our Battery Supply Chains Briefing paper (https://lnkd.in/evHNh8PP). 📣 We’ve seen the federal government answer our research-backed calls for more energy storage under the CIS: ➡️ In Jan 2023, BZE's National Supergrid (https://lnkd.in/g-pCeU7E) recommended support for 6GW/50MWh medium duration battery storage projects to unlock renewables and provide critical firming capacity. ✅ In August 2023, the government announces the Capacity Investment Scheme with a 6GW target for dispatchable energy. ➡️ In Nov 2023, BZE’s Battery Supply Chains briefing paper upped the recommendation for dispatchable energy to 12GW by 2030. ✅In Nov 2023 the government announced an expansion of the CIS to deliver 9GW of dispatchable capacity (short of our 12GW recommendation) and 23 GW of variable renewable energy (solar and wind). ✅In Oct 2024, the government announced an increase in the required dispatchable energy to 4GW, raising the total amount of energy storage being delivered under the CIS to 10GW. Still shy of our 12GW recommended by 2030, but well on track to get there. ⏰🔋It’s time for the federal government to consider our proposed 2035 target of 24GW of dispatchable energy (from National Supergrid) and include preferential treatment for Australian-manufactured batteries so that we speed up the roll-out of renewables and set the stage for homegrown cleantech businesses to thrive. Australia's green energy ambitions face hurdles as the country inches towards its renewable targets. Despite over 180 gigawatts of new projects in the queue, including substantial battery and pumped hydro storage, progress has been slow due to political and infrastructural challenges. South Australia's renewable share decreased to 69.3% due to poor wind conditions and grid constraints. Rooftop solar remains a strong performer, contributing significantly to the grid. Battery storage capacity is expected to quadruple in the next 18 months, enhancing its role in the energy mix. The cost of generation varied, with rooftop solar being the cheapest and diesel generators the most expensive. According to new research published by Cornwall Insight, solar and wind (onshore and offshore) will account for just 44% of Great Britain’s electricity generation by 2030, well short of the 67% needed to provide Britain with ‘clean power’.

Australia called out for grid queues, policy gaps in race to triple global renewables The amount of large-scale solar and wind capacity added to energy systems around the world grew by 50% in 2023, setting a faster pace of global renewables growth than at any time in the last three decades and putting the world on track – almost – to meet the COP 28 goal of tripling capacity by 2030. Such good news for #Southaustralia and the world! I know it's a week old now, but not everyone knows about it yet. The Commonwealth Government has signed the first Renewable Energy Transformation Agreement with the Government of South Australia, underwriting at least 1,000 MW of new renewable generation and 400 MW of new storage capacity in South Australia, amongst other things. This bolsters the transition and ensures that South Australia is net 100% renewables sooner, supporting new #hydrogen, #greeniron, #greensteel and #copper ventures. Great economy building stuff! https://lnkd.in/gNuyZMTd.

The EU is aiming to reach 42.5% renewable energy by 2030. While this might seem like an ambitious target, it’s important to recognize the progress underway. From the European Investment Bank investing €5 billion in the wind industry, to a new 50MW wind farm in Scotland powering 60,000 homes, investments like this are critical to accelerating the transition to renewables. https://lnkd.in/dhBE3vnD
