Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is allocating over Php686 million to convert the sludge lagoons inside La Mesa Compound into an impounding reservoir for the raw water flowing in from the Angat-Ipo Dam system, effectively increasing the company’s water storage capacity. By converting the lagoons into a reservoir, Maynilad’s La Mesa Treatment Plant 1 will have a 200-ML additional raw water reserve that can augment supply whenever water inflows from the Angat-Ipo Dam system via the Novaliches/La Mesa Portal goes down due to lack of rains or reduced allocations. Targeted for completion by the fourth quarter of 2025, this 200-ML raw water reservoir would be Maynilad’s only reservoir for raw water, as all of its 38 existing reservoirs are only for treated water. 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 $𝟏.𝟔𝐛𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 The project for the new reservoir would likely take six years to build, according to Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Administrator Ricaurte Vasquez. The future $1.6 billion reservoir along the Indio River will provide water security in the years ahead to maintain a minimum of 36 transits a day to a maximum of 40 transits a day. The Indio River reservoir will be part of the existing network of artificial lakes built since its inauguration in 1914. The new reservoir project is estimated to cost $1.2 billion, with an additional $400 million for investments in neighbouring communities. Panama suffered its worst drought on record last year and reducing fresh water to operate the locks, forcing the ACP to cut transits in half. As the rainy season returns, the canal will increase daily transits to 35 slots after August 5 in both Neo-panamax and Panamax locks.

Designed to support an expected 21,000 residents living in Harmony by 2036, the project includes the construction of a new 12 megalitre (ML) water reservoir at Tanawha. It also includes an additional 2.6kms of water pipeline to connect the water reservoir to Harmony. We’ve started work in Scotton to build a new service reservoir to increase resilience of the area’s drinking water network. Our partners Mott MacDonald Bentley | MMB are building the new service reservoir next to our existing reservoir on Hunton New Road. When it’s complete, the reservoir will help to provide 2.5 million litres of clean drinking water (equivalent to over 30,000 bathtubs) to Catterick Garrison and the surrounding areas. Vic Murray HRWS increased to 88% and is expected to achieve 100% by December. Unfortunately, there were no increases for NSW Murray general security holders remaining at 44% and Murrumbidgee general security remains at 34%. 💧 Temp Markets: No further increases to allocations for NSW Murray and Murrumbidgee provoked a quick injection of buyer activity. Below choke SA and Vic 7, demand is being observed for SA quarterly balancing of accounts. We continue to observe strong buyer activity Above choke (Vic 6 and NSW Murray Zone 10). Mixed segments of where the demand is coming from; Dairy, pre sowing preparation and some reports of purchasing for carryover for next season. 💧 Forwards, Leases and Perm Markets: We are also observing an increase in enquiry for Forwards. Intra-Season and multi-season. Likewise, Entitlement Leases are being locked away with 3 - 5 years being of main interest and the Perm market remains steady. 📅 Finally, we are yet to obtain an update in relation to the next EOI Commonwealth tender. However, the remaining Bridging the Gap ATM was released this week, with the Commonwealth seeking water entitlements from QLD Condamine Balonne and NSW Borders Rivers. Did you know that Thomson is the biggest water catchment among four major catchments (Maroondah, Thomson, Upper Yarra, O'Shannassy) that provide water for Melbourne? The capacity of Thomson reservoir is 1068000 ML. More than 94% of its capacity is full at the moment. The second biggest storage reservoir is Upper Yarra, with only 200579 ML! Opa Water Works Project to Boost Water Supply for Smart City Panaji The Opa Water Works project, which cost Rs 29 crore, is finished and will shortly be put into service. The project’s goal is to improve Smart City Panaji’s water supply by giving the state capital an extra 63 million liters of water per day (MLD). Intake wells, an extra pump house with six centrifugal pumps (each having a 20 MLD capacity), a 1,500 cubic meter sump, a 300 CuM ground-level reservoir (GLR), and two 2,500-liter master balancing reservoirs atop Curti Hill are among the important infrastructure that has been finished.
