As we count down to the third edition of The #JourneyOfWater campaign led by WWF-Kenya, we call for collective action towards better water resource management. This year, the event will be held in #Kisumu, Kenya's third-largest urban center, which faces significant water shortages that profoundly impact livelihoods by limiting access to clean drinking water, agricultural productivity, and economic activities. The focus will be on River Kibos, which, despite providing 65% of Kisumu City's water, suffers from degradation due to human encroachment and climate change. This degradation poses a severe threat to the city's water supply and the well-being of its residents. We, as Youth and Urbanism, eagerly anticipate this event because it presents a crucial opportunity to advocate for sustainable practices and raise awareness about the importance of preserving our vital water resources. Join us in Kisumu to champion the cause of River Kibos and ensure a sustainable water future for all. #JourneyOfWater #Voices4Rivers #RiverKibos #Catchment2Tap #WaterResourceManagement #MitoYetuJukumuLetu #YouthAndUrbanism

🌱 Building a Greener Tomorrow: MM2100 Mangrove Plantation CSR 2024 🌱 On November 9, 2024, MM2100 Industrial Town, alongside 39 tenants and 135 participants, came together for a meaningful initiative: planting 26,258 mangrove trees across 2.6 hectares in Pantai Bahagia, Muaragembong. This program, started in 2015, has grown tremendously, with 121,316 mangrove trees now flourishing on 18.6 hectares of coastal land. 🌍 Why Mangroves Matter: 🌿 Coastal Protection: Mangroves act as natural barriers, reducing the impact of storms and preventing erosion. 🌿 Carbon Sequestration: They absorb significant amounts of CO₂, contributing to climate change mitigation. 🌿 Biodiversity Support: Mangroves provide a habitat for marine life and support the livelihoods of local communities. Together, we’re not just planting trees; we’re planting hope, resilience, and sustainability for future generations. 🌊✨ Let’s continue to create impactful collaborations for a better environment. Thank you to all our tenants and participants for making this initiative a success! Not Another Concrete Jungle: The Need for Green, Sustainable Building as Uganda's Housing Market Booms The latest statistics on Uganda's housing market growth are staggering. Prices in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area saw their biggest quarterly jump since 2021 in Q4 2022, driven largely by rising property values in Wakiso's urban areas. I'm thrilled to see this acceleration in Kampala's housing market. More development means more opportunities to put my skills to work designing affordable, quality homes for the area's rapidly growing population. However, I'm wary of letting this boom turn into a concrete jungle devoid of green space. Kampala's natural beauty and biodiversity are a treasure we must protect. Unchecked development driven solely by profits could destroy forests, wetlands and critical ecosystems. That's why we’re committed to Sustainable Building focused on preserving nature, not paving over it. With Kampala expected to double in population by 2040, we must take a smart growth approach that balances housing needs with environmental protection.
