🎨 Do you ever feel like you have a LOT of plates spinning? And if you focus on one of those plates for too long, the others might come crashing down? It’s no secret that for the last 5 years my main focus has been VO. But I came up through music and theatre. And during the pandemic, I started to fill in the gaps of my education when it came to screen acting. It was something I’d always wanted to learn, but my BFA Theatre program just didn’t have the time to cover it thoroughly. 🎬 After being in class weekly for 3 years and only seeing scattered on-camera auditions and bookings, I was beginning to wonder if I should just give up. That’s when my life coach suggested to me that it’s possible that one lane of your career can pull along the other lanes. That VO, screen acting, theatre, music — they’re all on a team running a relay race, and one can pass the baton to the other. At the time I was skeptical. “Why would film directors care about my voice acting experience?” And then the first week of January 2025 hit and I booked three films in four days. And TWO of those directors told me that my voice acting work contributed to their decision to hire me. ‼️ Now I’m starting to see it. 💡 If you’re feeling insecure about putting most of your eggs in one basket, and worrying that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to focus on all of your passions — breathe. And consider how jumping into one of your passions with two feet is actually helping your other passions along. A rising tide raises all ships. Had I not been laser-focused on VO for the last 5 years, I wouldn’t have amassed the credits and expertise to be attractive to my ideal film collaborators. Had they not been intrigued by my VO work, they may never have watched my on-camera reel and decided they could trust me with their projects. It’s all related. Let’s take some of the pressure off ourselves to spin 37 plates at once. My advice is to go with the tide, and know that the other ships will catch up. #vo #voiceacting #voiceoverartist #voiceover #voiceactor #screenactor #screenacting
