Dear Employers--But Especially Giving the Mom Glare to Higher Ed/Student Affairs Institutions: PUT THE SALARY RANGE IN THE POSTING!!!! Yes, I am shouting. and no, I don't care if you think I'm rude. I think YOU'RE rude if you play "hide the salary" until you've wasted both your own time and good candidates' time by not putting it out there upfront. And this goes for every position. Recently, on my campus (though not my institution--maybe you've heard about the big divorce at IUPUI), positions were talked about here and only the executive-ish jobs had the salary range in the posting. I actually had to ask the person who posted them "what's the salary range for the entry level jobs?" I'm not applying for the jobs myself so it was not a big deal for me to put that out there. But no one should HAVE to ask. If you are ashamed of how poorly you pay people, then maybe fix that if you can. Or offer something else (flexibility, conference attendance, tuition benefit, more remote work opportunities, relaxed dress code) that might make someone say, "OK, this is a good job for me right now and I'll give it my best every day that I am there." Get with the program, please.

I would echo this for internships especially. Students need experience, of course. But they also have bills to pay and they are more likely to apply for your internship positions with the following listed: 1. Pay rate 2. Expected hrs 3. Flexibility around class schedules 4. Opportunity for growth

I agree with the article. I have been looking for a job & I would get upset because there was no salary posted.
