About 4–16 weeks to go… Stage 2: Fear Planning sort-of starts, and you have no idea why you even invited everyone to your house. About 1-4 weeks to go… Stage 3: Optimism It is going to happen and you are determined to make it work. You start drinking more coffee to help you plan. Part of you is secretly hoping to catch something that appears to be serious enough to cancel the plans, but not serious enough to spoil time with your household. In the end, you hope it is just an innocent sniffle. A few hours to 1 week to go… Stage 4: Validation Celebrations are here, and things are going well. Everyone is unique in their own way, and you are enjoying things. You are so busy, all self-care goes out the door, but you are having a good time. 30% of the celebration is over. Stage 5: Perseverence You tell your spouse you are renting an AirBNB next year for your household only, doing no gifts, and never doing this again. 30% to 100% of the celebration is over.
