Fantastic insights on aligning the hiring process with the broader organizational vision. Emphasizing the key tasks of the role and the necessary skills reflects a thoughtful approach to not just filling a position but enhancing the company culture and capabilities. Your emphasis on precision and clear success metrics can truly differentiate a company in a competitive tech landscape. Looking forward to more.
What a great opportunity to take your organization to the next level.
Looks like a great workshop series, Melissa Carson! I often find people hire under duress and are scrambling to find anyone that may fill a position as they are swamped, want to check a box, and move on to the million other things they have going on. As we know, this will end up costing them more in the long-term. It's crucial that people hiring have a clear strategy/path forward, starting with well-thought out questions, as you point out.
Great topic and definitely something to master. I look forward to hearing what lessons people took out of the workshop. 🤓
Always hire for culture first. People that don't fit your culture will cost you more than they make you!
I think one of the challenges many leaders have when seeking to make the right hiring decisions Melissa Carson is that they may have a clear idea of what's needed but they don't necessarily know the questions to ask to provide the most revealing insights.
Melissa I think what intimidates most folks is that the next hire can totally change the company for good or for bad - especially when it's small. Love the insights and help you provide for this.
Melissa Carson, great post --- what are your thoughts on screening candidates to ensure they fit corporate culture and or to determine if they have the innate skills and drive for the position?
So much goodness in your offering. To create alignment is so empowering for everyone involved. Thanks for sharing 🙏

6moWhat I see companies do is they are hiring for an area they could be more skilled in. So when interviewing, it may sound like they are a good fit on the surface, but they may not know how to drill in to understand if that is in fact a good fit for the role.
