It’s stress awareness month and as part of that there are things we can all do to aid our own wellbeing. One of the 5 ways to wellbeing is to give. There’s lots of research about the positive effects of taking part in social and community life with some studies showing that people who help others are more likely to rate themselves as happy. Below is a great opportunity with a local charity close to my heart Motiv8 to do just that, whilst improving our community 😊I’m looking forward to taking part! So what ways do you give back? Is there anything you can do today to be kind and helpful to others, however big or small? #wellbeing #stressawarenessmonth
Fancy a different kind of team-bonding that doesn’t involve drinking or an escape room AND helps the environment? 🌊 Led by Motiv8 Youth Advisor Mackenzie Bird, join us and our partners from across the city for a beach clean ahead of the D-Day 80 celebration. We are inviting you and your colleagues to join us as volunteers, if you are able, both to help clean and help the young people we all support demonstrate pride in their home. Any direct or financial support around equipment, refreshments, or event logistics is also most welcome! 🗓️ Saturday 1st June, 10am at Hot Walls, Old Portsmouth. With the uncertainty surrounding the future of Bandcamp — it highlights the need for more communities to grab control and look at owning their own assets. Physical or digital. Community control doesn't have to mean a smaller share of the market or less profit. We just need to be bold and think big. Bandcamp worked because it put musicians first and at the heart of every decision. With new owners — who knows if that will continue. The only way you can ensure customers (or a community of interest) are put first is to make sure they own it, and are actively involved in key decisions and/or electing those who make them on their behalf. We need more coops For those looking for an alternative to Bandcamp take a look at Ampled. https://lnkd.in/etvfG5gu and/or www.resonate.coop and think what could be...

It is a busy time of year for all #professionals (year-end!), but it is also a time of year where many people start thinking about #givingbacktothecommunity! There are so many Activate Good volunteer opportunities throughout the year, but Saturday, November 18 is #FamilyVolunteerDay and the perfect time to serve, learn, and reflect with the whole family. It's my favorite volunteer event of the year (the energy is positive and fun)...so I'm inviting my #linkedinnetwork to grab your family and friends, and join Ethan Gabriel and I for #FamilyVolunteerDay at Marbles Kids Museum to work together on a variety of hands-on project to make a difference in the community! Registration required. https://lnkd.in/gKi_jzXg

Part 1 🎭🎭🎭🎭🎭🎭 Hello 👋🏾 👋🏽👋🏻 Just sharing an amazing experience that should definitely be shared with our young people. I was given the privilege by one ☝🏾of my awesome 🤩 volunteer. 2 tickets 🎫 were purchased for me & I took my “sidekick , my better me” @neshaa32 . We don’t do theatre 🎭 which is weird especially as this was a musical. It was a musical with a difference..it was all in RAP. Omg 😦 it was amazing, the dance that’s associated with rap as well as the attitude, was all told in a history format. If you want children to learn we can encourage this by using the music that is in our culture to teach Children to learn. In this case it was the history of Hamilton. The main cast were people of colour & they were fantastic. As I said I don’t do musicals but if there’s another show like this , I will definitely go & see it. The tickets are expensive so my campaign: for local government & local councils & the Arts should be able to find funds that will allow our children to be able to experience something that could potentially change their lives. Rap is always association with negativity, but this play & the way that it was done shows that rap could be used to empower, change how people use certain words change, how people see the world improve on their English literature, while having fun learning something that otherwise would not interest them . This should be added to our education under heading The Arts 🎭 The government has taken away -Economics -Childcare & early years development -Metal work & woodwork for creativity and using your hands. -Sports & well-being for a healthy lifestyle & to be able to choose the right choices -Arts and craft, we have many talented children & young people in Hackney, that are not given the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents. #addthistoeducation #theatreforall #disadvantagedchildren #childrenandyoungpeople #opportunities #equityforall #fundingforyoungpeople #rapmusic #rap #musicalsusingrapmusic #blackactress #blackactors #hamilton #hamiltonmusical #theatrediscounts #tickets #youngpeople #costoflivingcrisis #givethemachance #shine REVIEW IN THE NEXT CLIP.

West Deptford High School held inclusive performance for local children with sensory needs in mind https://buff.ly/3VdwhqF West Deptford High School recently organized a special performance tailored for local children with sensory sensitivities in mind. The event aimed to create an inclusive environment where all children, regardless of their sensory needs, could enjoy and participate in the performance. By incorporating sensory-friendly elements such as dimmed lighting, quiet spaces, and modified sound levels, the school ensured that every child could fully engage with the show without feeling overwhelmed. The performance featured a variety of interactive activities and engaging performances designed to cater to children with different sensory preferences. For example, there were hands-on sensory stations where children could explore different textures, sounds, and visuals in a safe and controlled environment. Additionally, the performers incorporated sign language, visual aids, and other communication tools to ensure that all children could follow along and participate in the show. According to recent studies, events like these have shown to have a positive impact on children with sensory sensitivities, helping them feel included and valued in their community. By fostering a supportive and accommodating environment, West Deptford High School not only provided a memorable experience for the children but also promoted acceptance and understanding of sensory differences among the wider community. In conclusion, the inclusive performance held by West Deptford High School serves as a shining example of how schools and organizations can create accessible and welcoming spaces for children with sensory needs. By prioritizing inclusivity and accommodation, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate and enjoy community events to the fullest extent possible.

[Northbridge, 9.24.23] - The Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter is proud to announce the upcoming "Blackstone Valley Festival of Trees," a heartwarming community event set to brighten this holiday season while supporting the homeless. Scheduled for December 1, 2, and 3, the festival invites the community to participate by donating decorated trees for a noble cause. This fundraising initiative aims to generate essential funds to provide shelter and support to the homeless during the challenging winter season ahead. To make this event a success, the organizers are calling on businesses, churches, and individuals to lend a helping hand by donating beautifully adorned trees. "The Festival of Trees is a remarkable opportunity for our community to come together, share the spirit of giving, and create a lasting impact," said Leslie Reichert, Executive Director at the Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter. "We believe in the power of unity and hope that our community will join us in this heartfelt endeavor." Participating in the Festival of Trees is both simple and generous. People can contribute by donating decorated trees that will be prominently displayed during the event. These trees will subsequently be raffled off to attendees, with the proceeds directly benefiting the shelter's efforts to support the homeless. The best part is that there is no cost associated with participation other than the donation of the tree itself. The Festival of Trees is open to the public on December 2 and 3, providing an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the beautifully adorned trees and embrace the holiday spirit. Participants are encouraged to get creative with their tree decorations, but a themed tree is not a requirement. The main focus is on the impact you can make in supporting those in need within the community. "We see this event as a win-win for everyone involved," added Reichert. "Not only will it raise much-needed funds, but it will also allow businesses, churches, and families a way to showcase their community involvement and generosity, making this holiday season even more special." For anyone interested in participating or seeking additional information about the Blackstone Valley Festival of Trees, please contact 508-751-0799 (after 5 PM) or www.BVFestivalofTrees.org. Your involvement will help make this event a resounding success and contribute to the well-being of our community's most vulnerable members. Let's come together, illuminate the holiday season, and create a brighter future for those in need. Your support can make all the difference. About the Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter: The Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter is committed to providing shelter, support, and resources to those experiencing homelessness in the Blackstone Valley region.
