Every second counts when you are having a stroke, and our stroke care teams work tirelessly to ensure our patients receive the best possible care in a timely manner. Recently, the AHA awarded Springfield Memorial Hospital with the Gold Plus, Honor Roll Elite and Stroke Advanced Therapy Awards while Decatur Memorial Hospital was again recognized with the Gold Plus with Honor Roll Get With The Guidelines - Stroke quality achievement awards. These awards recognize hospitals that ensure stroke patients get high-quality, research-based treatment that aligns with AHA guidelines. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with “clot-busting” thrombolytic therapy. We are proud of our colleagues who work together to help provide the best possible outcomes for our patients who are experiencing strokes. #strokecare #GetWiththeGuidelines #teamwork

TriStar Summit Medical Center has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Achievement Award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability. Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. When that happens, part of the brain cannot get the blood and oxygen it needs, so brain cells die. Early stroke detection and treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability and accelerating recovery times. Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest research- and evidence-based guidelines. TriStar Summit Medical Center is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” said Daphne David, CEO. “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which studies show can help patients recover better. The end goal is to ensure more people in our community can experience longer, healthier lives.” #WeShowUp #CareLikeFamily

Prevention and recovery are deeply related in #stroke care. A full 23% of stroke survivors who had a first stroke will go on to have a second. The good news is that high-intensity, high-dose, cognitively stimulating therapy, clinically shown to push patients beyond the plateau of recovery, also provides significant cardiovascular benefits going towards prevention. We're super excited at NeuroAnimation to release our at-home program (on the #MetaQuest platform) in December, The Last Reef. Our technology has been shown in clinical studies to generally increase motivation. Players are more active, upbeat, and social, and the effect lasts and generalize. https://lnkd.in/dDwQPc8r #neurorehabilitation #rehabilitation #neuroanimation
Nearly 2 million brain cells are lost each minute stroke treatment is delayed. We’re committed to providing expert, brain-saving stroke care and are proud to announce that five OhioHealth hospitals were recently recognized for just that. Congratulations to Riverside Methodist Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Grant Medical Center, Mansfield Hospital and Marion General Hospital for being honored by the American Heart Association's Get with the Guidelines® initiative. This designation highlights our continued commitment to life-saving heart and stroke care for patients, including meeting quality measures developed to reduce the time between a patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment. ohlth.co/4ghFiHp

🌟 A big thank you to Emergency Department Anne Healy and Stroke CNS Mary Murphy at Mercy University Hospital for inviting me to help facilitate their inter-departmental stroke simulations! 🌟 With guidance from the well-established simulation program at CUH, we successfully ran a comprehensive standardised patient FAST call simulation that covered the entire journey from pre-alert at the ED all the way through to Thrombectomy. Simulations like these are incredibly valuable, as they have the potential to significantly enhance patient care. By improving our time to decision in stroke patients, we can make the entire treatment process smoother and more efficient. As we know, time is brain, and every second counts when dealing with stroke patients. 🧠⏱️ Being part of such initiatives is truly rewarding. It allows us to provide critical guidance, foster interdisciplinary teamwork, and witness firsthand the benefits that well-executed simulations can bring to clinical practice. These exercises not only help refine skills but also ensure that all team members are well-prepared to handle real-life emergencies with confidence and precision. I am thrilled to see how these simulations contribute to improving outcomes for patients and am excited about the progress that will be achieve together in the coming months. Here’s to more successful simulations and continued advancements in the program! #HealthcareSimulation #PatientCare #StrokeAwareness #EmergencyMedicine #Interdepartmental #Interdisciplinary #ContinuousImprovement

Efficient stroke care relies on quick recognition and precise execution. This algorithm highlights the vital steps in an emergency department's response to suspected strokes. A misstep can have catastrophic consequences. I recently had a stroke case where I created a chronology and analysis for the attorney. I was able to reveal the timeline for... *Door to ECG *Door to triage *Door to NIHSS (stroke assessment) *Door to doctor *Door to CT *Door to fibrinolytic A hospital's STROKE ALERT is a set of guidelines to implement a well-coordinated and integrated approach to the recognition and treatment of a patient exhibiting signs and symptoms of stroke. President, Emergency Skills, Inc. I CPR and AED Instructor, American Heart. Assoc. I Heartstart AED Distributor
May is American Stroke Month! Stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death and a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the U.S., despite stroke being largely preventable, treatable and beatable. Each year, approximately 800,000 people in the U.S. suffer a stroke. In observance of Stroke Month, the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association (ASA) is providing tools and resources that hospitals and organizations can use to enhance patient education, staff activities, and public awareness. We encourage you to check out these tools and resources to share at your organizations and/or with patients and their families and loved ones. Following is a sampling of tools and resources that can be downloaded here https://lnkd.in/e_ybfwdp *printable 3-sided tabletop sign *a F.A.S.T. infographic *a stroke risk in women infographic *stroke word search *patient resource list *printable pictures for patient evaluation Additionally, throughout the month, the AHA is presenting free webinars that bring applicable stroke-focused learning to healthcare professionals. Visit the site for a listing of these educational webinars. We hope that these resources will make it easier than ever for your organization to participate in Stroke Month and continue educating staff, patients, and members of your communities. #strokemonth #beprepared #cprsaveslives

Strokes occur when a blockage or rupture disrupts the blood supply to the brain, necessitating immediate medical intervention. The speed at which treatment is administered can significantly influence recovery and outcomes. This month, we not only focus on educating the public about the signs and prevention of strokes but also take a moment to extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated medical professionals. These teams, including doctors, nurses, and therapists, work tirelessly on the frontlines to provide critical care to stroke survivors. We also celebrate the incredible advancements made by medical device manufacturers. Their innovative solutions continue to improve the quality of life for stroke survivors, making daily challenges more manageable and recovery more achievable. Let's use this month to spread knowledge about stroke prevention, recognize the resilience of survivors, and thank those who continue to push the boundaries of science and medicine to better serve our communities. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and they make a profound difference. Together, we can raise awareness and continue to support the ongoing fight against strokes. 💙🧠 #StrokeAwarenessMonth #HealthcareHeroes #MedicalInnovation #BDMPRO #BIOXTREME
