🎄 The last day of our #5daystochristmas is here, and it's arguably the most important of all the days - choking! 🎄 If you ever find yourself in a situation where someone is choking, it's crucial to act quickly and effectively. Here are some signs to look out for: 🔹 Difficulty breathing, speaking, or coughing 🔹 A red, puffy face 🔹 Signs of distress, such as pointing to their throat or grasping their neck To provide immediate first aid, follow these steps: 1️⃣ Ask or encourage the person to cough. Sometimes, a strong cough can dislodge the obstruction. 2️⃣ If coughing doesn't work, perform up to 5 back blows between the shoulders. This can help dislodge the blockage. 3️⃣ If back blows are unsuccessful, attempt up to 5 abdominal thrusts. However, remember that abdominal thrusts should not be performed on babies below 12 months. After successfully removing the obstruction, it's important to consider seeking medical attention, especially if: 🔹 Abdominal thrusts were performed 🔹 It feels like there is something still in their throat 🔹 They have difficulty swallowing 🔹 They have a persistent cough Taking these steps can help ensure the safety and well-being of the person who was choking. Remember, quick action and knowledge of first aid can make a significant difference in such situations. Stay safe, everyone! ❤️ #safetyfirst #firstaid #chokingawareness #5daystochristmas

Yesterday was unusual. A follow-up medical procedure for someone I love. Anesthesia. Nothing earth-shattering. This procedure is GOOD. It’s proactive. However, anytime anesthesia is involved, I’m nervous. As we rode, I used much of what I’ve learned through Positive Intelligence to create stillness, a different perspective, and peace. Heading into downtown Richmond, we were emerging from trees to cross the Powhite Parkway bridge. I could see sunlight POURING across it. So I grabbed my phone. I just had a feeling. And OH, the view. From this new, more positive perspective, I was captivated. I soaked this in, steadied myself, and remembered… I GET to be here. I’m fully present. We’re in this together. And onward. One moment at a time. May our view from yesterday bring you some sense of peace or relief where you need it today. (Note: Everything went well!) #positiveintelligence #purpose #presence

Choking: A Life-Threatening Emergency Choking can happen suddenly, and knowing how to respond can make the difference between life and death. Whether you're at home, in the workplace, or out with friends, it's crucial to be prepared. Signs of Choking: - Inability to speak, cough, or breathe - Grasping the throat (the universal choking sign) - Wheezing or high-pitched breathing sounds - Blueish skin color due to lack of oxygen What to Do: 1. Encourage Coughing: If the person can still breathe, encourage them to try to cough up the object. 2. Back Blows: Stand behind them, lean them forward, and deliver 5 firm blows between the shoulder blades - for Infants. 3. Abdominal Thrusts (Heimlich Maneuver): If back blows don’t work, use quick, upward abdominal thrusts - for Adult and Child. 5. If They Become Unconscious: Start CPR immediately and call emergency services. For Infants: Use gentle back blows and chest thrusts instead of abdominal thrusts. Being prepared and informed can help you save a life in an emergency. Remember, quick action is key! #AmericanHeartAssociation #AHA #FirstAid #EmergencyResponse #ChokingPrevention #SafetyFirst #Healthcare
