Six years ago today, Melissa and I launched Avoca Search and it just so happens that today is Employee Appreciation Day! Which is fitting, because Avoca would not be thriving without our stellar team Melissa McCartie Jennifer Bauer, Todd Wozniak, CIR, CRA, Kim Ratier, Susanne Doran, MBA, Eileen Curl, Selena Dickherber, Carrie O'Neill. Thank you for the outstanding work you deliver and the fun, supportive culture we all enjoy working in everyday.   They say time flies when you are having fun, which is why it feels like the last six years have flown by. In 2018, after the purchase of The Advisory Board by Optum it was time to finally fulfill a dream and start my own firm. Having spent 11 years in search following by 8 in consulting it was an easy decision. For 25 years I have called on health care executives whether it was strategizing on how they regenerate their medical staff, best practices in provider recruitment, operational improvement of their EHR or the sustainability of their employed provider network. It's always hard to break into search but in starting my own firm I got a much appreciated reception from my network. Health systems have history with firms and their favorites. Several executives took a risk on me and Avoca. Our good work opened more doors. Great to be at NHS Confederation’s Primary Care conference yesterday, which was buzzing and definitely the place to be 😉 Some definite themes from the various sessions: - Funding (more ideally!) and greater certainty of funding enabling longer term planning - Continuing to grow the workforce and retaining experienced staff - the success of ARRS roles and integrated neighbourhood working - importance of co-locating teams - Investing in new estates - and the creative solutions colleagues have found to expand/ repurpose existing space - Focussing on capacity rather than access - moving on from the binary debate about access vs continuity - patients value both - Aligning operating models within Primary Care - between Primary Care and Secondary Care - to drive out inefficiencies and identify opportunities to collaborate - ICB’s role in creating the right conditions for change - empowering leaders to innovate and giving them the resources to make change happen - Supporting Primary Care leaders to build consensus - enabling Primary Care to have impact and influence Brilliant to reconnect with some inspiring Primary Care leaders, former colleagues and friends Pramit Patel Neil Modha DL Nikki Mallinder Charlotte Sydney Wilson and Ruth Rankine to name a few!
