Today, our 23rd Paramedic class joined us at Station 1 for their first day of class. This group has been pulled from their duties on a full-time truck to focus on their studies at the MEMS EMS Academy for the next eight months. Week two of Rookie School began today with early morning PT at the Victory Building. 💪🏃

Today, MEMS recognized 18 Cabot Aquatic Center lifeguards and staff for rescuing a 3-year-old from a near-drowning incident.

At MEMS, we have the Phoenix Award, presented to field crew members and dispatchers who played a part in resuscitating a patient able to leave the hospital with full neurological function. Many have received the Phoenix Award, and many are familiar with and certified in CPR; in emotionally charged situations, few of us know how we would react if it were one of our loved ones lying on the floor in front of us. In November 2023, EMT Hunter Littleton's father suffered a cardiac arrest at home. Hunter was off duty and performed CPR on his father for over 15 minutes before local first responders arrived. This week, we presented Hunter with a Phoenix Award alongside his father, who has fully recovered.

This week, we have pinned and promoted seven new FTOs! Pictured is Rachel Allison, Macy Bratton, Bacardi Bessolo, Nathan Ficklin, Kristen Hickey, Taylor Ogle, Kevin Sabella. Each member of this group was promoted to the rank of Sergeant except Macy Bratton, who was promoted to Lieutenant due to her role as the SORT Team lead. Congratulations to this group on their hard work and dedication. Be on the lookout; we have more promotions to come before the year is over!
