At TLP, we support a lot of individuals who self-harm and the relationship between self-harm and suicidal ideation is complex. What we know for certain is that self harm can indicate that someone is struggling, and can be a sense of relief from feeling overwhelmed with emotions. Working through self-harm needs open, confidential and non-judgemental conversations - exactly what our volunteers are here to provide. #SelfHarmAwarenessDay

The wisdom of Dr Bruce Perry. Can we start organising our work around trauma? So many children living with trauma - so many living amongst terrifying violence. And our systems label them - problematise them - diagnose, therapise, stigmatise, medicate … But how often do we see them in their system and think about their behaviour as responses to their environments, their innate need to survive, as the only way they to tell us that they’re scared all the time, that it hurts, that the world is not safe, that they cannot trust (especially authority figures) - that there is something inherently wrong with them. And then this is the message they carry internally for life. We need to urgently reframe how we talk about and to children across all parts of all systems. Children are not the problem - they are the future and so so worth our investment into helping them be healthy in mind body and spirit ❤️ #safetywithouthealingistemporary #childrenarethefuture #safetyplanning #traumainformed #ourkidsbelongwithfamily #borntobelong #nothingaboutuswithoutus #nothingaboutmewithoutme #healingwithfamilynotfrom #safetywithfamilynotfrom @brduncper
