Lando Norris has every right to be frustrated, and you won't convince me otherwise. Though he was only leading the race due to a strategy to protect his teammate, the Hungarian Grand Prix reached a point where Lando was in front, with his only threat being his teammate. Enter team orders: Oscar Piastri was allowed to pass and take the win, despite struggling to catch Lando. Some might argue that Lando's poor start cost him the opportunity, but in the high-stakes world of elite sport, it's difficult to justify why McLaren issued team orders that painted their lead driver as the bad guy. The real kicker? Oscar winning over Lando didn't benefit anyone but Oscar. For the sake of the team in the Drivers' Championship, it made more sense to let Lando win and add to his superior tally, closing the gap on Max Verstappen. In what other profession would you let the top performer take a fall for the sake of some perceived fairness, especially when it harms the overall business? Else he will start to develop a pole-to-win conversion record like Charles Leclerc. Had he made a better race start in Hungary, he could avoided the drama at the end to win. Daniel Ricciardo, beloved by most, insufferable to some, and now departing Forumla 1. This is obviously the talk of the town in the Formula 1 world, but why exactly does it matter? To be clear, he has a decent record: -Eight wins -258 Grand Prix races -14 F1 seasons -1329 championship points accumulated -6 F1 teams raced for -P3 his highest finish in the championship But sometimes it takes more than that to stay in Formula 1 in 1 of the coveted 20 spots. And at some point, no amount of sponsorship a driver brings to the table will be able to offset lackluster performance. This now means RB can focus their attention on future drivers. Liam Lawson fits the bill. And RB has traditionally been a pipeline for their future talent. Could they have handled Daniel’s departure with a little more grace? For sure. But F1 never stops moving, and with a season very much in contention for Red Bull, sometimes it’s just best to move on.
