🚀 Just returned from the inspiring NADA show in Las Vegas, and wow, like every year, what an event! 🚗💼 With over 500 exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge products and services, the auto industry's pulse was truly felt. Here are my top four takeaways for the used car business:   1️⃣  Embracing AI: AI can be used already today to manage and steer customer engagement, enable the sales force and drive sales, develop pricing appraisal capabilities from accurate to precise and manage inventory much more efficient. Early adapters will create fast results and create a head-start to build a competitive advantage in buying, managing and selling used cars.   2️⃣ BEV Strategies: A supply surplus, high residual values and hesitant demand creating the need to implement an effective sales strategy for BEV’s at the dealership. Franchise-Dealers should position themselves as experts in BEV market, reducing uncertainties consumers have and becoming their trusted advisor. At the same time the challenges in used BEV market can be addressed by introducing alternative ownership models. But also in the Aftersales market are several hidden revenue potentials for dealerships to manage the threat of losing 30%-40% of the aftersales business due to BEV’s.     3️⃣ Digital Recon: Managing reconditioning costs is one of the most important, and sadly most neglected, discipline in creating a competitive advantage in the used car business model for dealerships. Professionalizing and digitalizing the recon process usually catapult the needed days on stock to far below 10 days and will create a cost advantage.   4️⃣ Active C2B Sourcing: The fight for more inventories has just begun. The ability to buy quality used cars from private owners in a large scale, connected with an efficient value creation process while managing the related risks is a very complex but extremely rewarding activity in the professional used car business model. NEW CAR REGISTRATIONS IN SPAIN SORTED BY MODEL – HEAT MAP – LAST 12 MONTHS TO JUNE 2024 The enclosed table shows the ranking of the TOP 50 models registered in Spain between July 2023 and June 2024 (note: all values represent # of new vehicle registrations). Rows are all sorted by model registrations 12-month totals in descending order, and colours represent the monthly registrations, from dark green (highest) to dark red (lowest), with 1,000 monthly registrations set as a neutral/change colour. This analysis measures the last 12 months of registrations by month and by model: ·       Total registrations are 670,226 across all 50 models. ·       The registrations of 670,226 were driven by SANDERO with 31,915 (4.76%), ZS with 25,034 (3.74%) and COROLLA with 23,753 (3.54%). ·       The registrations of 31,915 from SANDERO were driven by July 2023 with 4,136 (13%), April 2024 with 3,380 (11%) and June 2024 with 3,241 (10%). ·       The distribution ranges from 6,355 (FOCUS) to 31,915 (SANDERO), a difference of 25,560, averaging 13,405. ·       Registrations are relatively concentrated with 54% of the total represented by 19 of the 50 models (38%). ·       On the other hand, the 31 smallest models (62% of the total) represent 46% of the total registrations. ·       The top eight models represent over a quarter (27%) of overall registrations, and the top 17 models represent half. ·       SANDERO (31,915) is more than two times bigger than the average across the 50 models. ·       The 10 individual models discussed in detail are selected based on the total registrations across all months.
