I left Douala for Buea a few days back and I noticed something I had never thought about before.
When I stopped at the Park, while still on the bike , 3 aggressive "gentlemen" jumped on me to collect my bag.
Trust this Clando drivers, they can put your bag in their car before knowing whether you are going north or south.
"Na Buea?" "You Di go Limbe?" "Cam we go"
I said I was going to Buea while still trying to keep my bag away from thier eager hands ,and one of the men left ( apparently a Limbe Driver)
The remaining drivers started asking questions?
Driver 1: "Cam we go, You wan go now now nor? Na 2 place remain for motor?"
Driver 2: You no wan overload nor, c'est sans surcharge, came we go.
My options were quite simple:
Driver 1 had a small Toyota Avensis, which would take 5 people ( paying 2000frs each). It's a bit tight but it will fill much faster and can get through traffic easier. Hence the speed.
Driver 2 had a Toyota Corolla which would take 4 people paying 2500frs each. It's bigger, has air conditioning and is more comfortable. Less people take it hence it takes a bit longer to Fill.
And opposite the road was a bus that charged 1200frs for the same Journey but I'll tell you the story of entering that bus another day, its not for the weak in spirit😂😂
I Was in no rush so I went with the second Driver. anyways forget all this up and down story, I wanted us to talk about this relatively new beer that I saw when I was in the car.
Slash is a brand that decided to sell it's beer in plastic bottles and their marketing caught my attention.
I'll start by saying, No body needed a new beer😂, certainly not one in a plastic bottle. Which is what the genius Marketers at SLASH Beer understood.
Instead of marketing the "Taste" like all beer and Juice companies are doing, they decided to market what makes them "Different"
(They figured that If beers like Origin and Guinness can sell then taste no be the problem 😂)
They focused on what is referred to as their Unique Selling Point (USP) and they created amazing and fun tag lines around their difference .
"How did you open your beer before?"
"How did you transport your beer before?"
Check out pictures in the comment section
So how does this relate to my travel story
The drivers did the same thing, their marketing was tied around their USP
Driver 1 had speed
Driver 2 had comfort
A Unique selling point is just that, the thing that makes you different from all your competitors, if you do not find or create one ,be rest assured that your marketing is going to get ignored.
So tell me, What is your Unique selling point?
