Discipline Oh, this is a word, isn't it? I reckon most of us react to it as soon as we read, hear or say it. Discipline. It can be excruciating. It can be condemning. It can be agonizing. And it can be liberating. Liberating? How so, you ask? Discipline read as forcing ourselves to do something we deeply dislike and actually don't want to do, will end up being perceived as a threat to our system - resulting in us not doing whatever we forced ourselves to do. On the other hand, discipline seen as committing to something we have set a conscious intention to do can be life-changing. Discipline is needed for nearly all aspects in life. As children, we would have never learnt to walk had we not had the discipline to carry on when things got tough after the first few steps. Same goes for learning to ride a bike. Or swim. Or finish our degree at uni. When we are committed, we will get closer to where we want to get to. I am not one for saying that whatever we set our mind on, we will achieve - not everyone is cut out to be a professional pianist, but most of us can be playing the piano decently, if this is what we want to. When it comes to starting your healing journey, commitment to it is crucial. In the initial sessions, we will work on this, and throughout our journey, I will regularly remind you of it and spur you on. This is why working with a practitioner can be so immensely helpful. Helping changemakers navigate burnout ✨ Leadership Coach I Mindfulness Teacher I Speaker I Nonprofiteer
When I tell people that I have a mindfulness coaching side business + work at Feeding America, the most common response is, wow - you must be really busy. Busy is such a pervasive word in our capitalist, grind loving culture. I'm taking my Mindfulness Community member's wisdom to embrace using the word "full" instead of "busy." What's your relationship to the word "busy"? PS - If you're looking for ways to get off the hamster wheel, reduce stress, and feel re-energized with the time you do have (even if that's 30 seconds), here's my free nonprofit burnout prevention kit: https://lnkd.in/gpu-Gkac #nonprofit #burnout #mindfulness

When you can think positively about things, this tends to increase your sense of wellbeing and happiness. But sometimes it’s hard to do that... Maybe many aspects of a day are not so positive. One approach you could try is what I would call positive version thinking. Here you say, well, the day looks pretty negative and I don’t see how I can feel at all positive about it. But maybe there is a positive version of today as well. Perhaps it will also include things that can make feel good, a favourite activity or talking to a favourite person. My True Friend course can help you to build compassion for yourself – to be a friend to yourself whatever happens. It’s an online course and payment is by donation so it’s affordable to all (link in the comments). #positivethinking #mindfulness

Helping changemakers navigate burnout ✨ Leadership Coach I Mindfulness Teacher I Speaker I Nonprofiteer
One of the most common misconceptions about mindfulness is that it's selfish. It's navel gazing. It does nothing to heal systems of oppression. My friends, this couldn't be farther than the truth! To heal our world and build just systems, we need more humans practicing mindfulness, compassion, and wise action. Here's some of my favorite books on the intersection of mindfulness and social justice: 💛 The Inner Work of Racial Justice: Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness by Rhonda V. Magee 💛 You Belong: A Call for Connection by Sebene Selassie 💛 Real Change: Mindfulness to Heal Ourselves and the World by Sharon Salzberg What resources have supported you around mindfulness + social justice? I'd love to hear. PS - Our next free Mindfulness Community for Changemakers gatherings are April 3 and April 24, from 5:30-6pm central. I'd love to see you there. Join my email community for details and the audio recording of the last session on shifting from fear to love. https://lnkd.in/gpu-Gkac #mindfulness #nonprofits #compassion #socialjustice
