By asking for help, we show our colleagues that we trust the quality of their work. What's more - they will observe that it's okay to ask for help! Show colleagues that you need them. Happy hours, carry ins, sports leagues, and other recreational activities are also good ways to build teams. Finding time to laugh and connect is as important as meeting a deadline and hitting that workplace "homerun." Finally, volunteering to serve others is another excellent way to strengthen a team. Our People team is glad to have spent time at The Rescue Mission in November, and at Hope's Harbor and Abbett Elementary School in December. (THANK YOU, to all three organizations, for hosting us!) Wishing all (Canadian friends and colleagues) a very Happy Thanksgiving! This has been an amazing and challenging year at Blackthorn Farm. I am so grateful to our pilot year CSA subscribers for their encouragement and patience. There has been so much to learn, but a great satisfaction in getting the first season under our belts. Big lessons: veg growing competencies are cultural (i.e. I can easily grow what my father grew, root veg not so much); Almost everything needs to be under cover; Time to pack boxes is best gift - the most fun part of my week should not be rushed. Next year will be about: extending the season with a poly tunnel; taking time to pack and deliver at a consistent time each week; and adding more info on what's in the box and how to use it. Subscribers love diversity and a vegetable adventure, but appreciate preparation ideas. Better, not bigger.
