British Growers are in full production yet shelves are filled with produce from around the world. You cannot move for Union Jack flags surrounding displays & hanging from ceilings but you will have to look hard for British fresh produce. The government have announced a new deal for farmers at a time when farmer confidence is at an all time low. I commented on the announcement to HortWeek “This sounds like a positive announcement for farmers who grow produce outdoors. "Glasshouse growers have never received any form of farming subsidy and current environmental schemes are largely irrelevant to them. "Protected growers (CEH, CEA) require labour access, energy cost stability and fair pricing.
