Tips with Alyce Bender Tip #3: Depth of Field As macro images are focusing on the small details, it is important that those details be sharp. Due to the closeness of our subjects the depth of field is shallower than if photographing a wide landscape. Take the time to check to ensure you have hit your focus exactly where you want it and that the entire subject/part of the subject you want in focus is sharp before moving on. For larger subjects that you want all in focus, such as insects or flowers, consider focus stacking for additional sharpness beyond what can be captured in a single frame. There’s a lesson to be learned in this photograph about perspective. At first glance, the photo appears to be of a tree beside a lake. But if you look closely, or from another angle, you’ll see that the photograph has nothing to do with a lake. Or does it? Bottom line: Change the way you look at everything. You may see something else.
