Have you heard of virtual engineering? That’s right—virtual! Imagine being able to design something without the added cost and time of having to perform multiple site visits. Our geomatics team, working alongside our water/wastewater team, is offering that possibility as we provide pre-design services for several of the City of Greeley’s reservoir sites and pump stations. Our geomatics team is performing field surveying, lidar scanning, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to develop comprehensive 2D CAD drawings and interactive 3D models that capture current field conditions at these sites. The City can then use and share these models for future design and construction efforts. One of the best parts? This method takes just one site visit! Return trips for additional measurements are no longer needed, allowing more time and budget to document more facilities. Our team has also innovated new scan-to-BIM processes using AI that help automate the modeling conversions, which make it faster and less expensive than manual methods. Partnering with the City of Greeley on this project has been a collaborative and rewarding experience. Together, we’ve combined Merrick’s technical expertise with Greeley’s forward-thinking vision to deliver solutions that meet the community’s needs. This partnership and project exemplify how teamwork and shared goals can drive progress and create lasting positive impacts. #wearemerrick
