🎉 Why do we celebrate 1 May as an Inl’l Labour Day? Lets’ take a look 👀 : 👉🏽 The history in Int'L Labour Day takes us back to the strike in Chicago on May 1, 1886 when workers demanded an eight hour working week, among other rights, setting off intense protests, which led to police brutality, explosions, civilian deaths and ignited more demonstrations from unions and workers. This inspired socialists and labour leaders of about twenty countries to set 1 May as the Int'l Labour Day in 1889 during the 2nd Int’l Meeting in Paris (my fellow Eastern Europeans will remember this from history classes). This year’s theme is ensuring workplace safety and health as we face even more effects of climate change. 🌹 Happy Labour Day! ✊🏽 Protect our people, protect our planet. 🌍🌱 💚 #LabourDay #ClimateAction #1May #WorkersRights

Alberta's Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) reports 2,229 injuries involving workers struck by a vehicle between 2014 and 2018. We can keep roadside workers safe. SLOW DOWN to at least 60 km/hr or the posted rate. Then if safe to do so, move over. This is now the law in Alberta for all roadside workers. #slowdown #slowdownmoveover #slowdownforroadworkers #roadsafety #protectallworkers #workersafety #safetyforemployees #safehabits #ItsTheLaw #roadworkers #safetyforroadworkers #safetymatters

Our worker's rights are under attack again 🚨 The draconian Minimum Service Levels Act that was forced through parliament by the government could restrict the right to strike for over five million workers - but the campaign to protect the right to strike continues. Tomorrow, we will March with the Trades Union Congress (The TUC) in the historic town of Cheltenham, commemorating 40 years since Margaret Thatcher's GCHQ trade union ban and showing this Conservative government we will continue to fight for our rights 📣 The right to strike is a fundamental British liberty that has protected and empowered workers past and present to fight for fair pay, equal opportunity, job security and decent conditions - so we must defend it at all costs ✊ #UnitetheUnion #RighttoStrike #AntiStrikeLaw #WorkersRights #UKPolitics #ProtectTheRighttoStrike #MinimumServiceLevelsAct

Workers’ Memorial Day is an important date. It’s the date every year when trade union and employer groups worldwide, as well as individual organisations, remember those who have been killed or injured in work-related incidents. Workers’ Memorial Day represents an opportunity to remember those we have lost, and to celebrate the contribution of those who continue to work to make us all safer. #WorkersMemorialDay #IWMD24
