The seatbelt is still the number one lifesaver! This year we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the mandatory installation of safety belts in new cars. After the highest ever death rate from road traffic accidents was recorded between 1968 and 1970, car manufacturers reacted by installing seat belts in new cars even before the regulation came into effect. As a result, the number of road deaths fell rapidly and to this day, the introduction of seat belts is one of the biggest steps in automotive safety. According to the WHO, the use of safety belts on front seats reduces the risk of death in a road accident by as much as 45-50%. Thanks to innovations such as this, the number of fatalities per year has been reduced from just under 20,000 (1970) to less than 3,000 today. However, the aim is still to reduce this figure to zero. Simply amazing, that such a kind of quite simple technology in a first step saves human lives. Today, around the world a lot of R&D is made to develop much more efficient technology for seat belt safety in more detail. Every human life counts in that matter. 💡🌟👍🤝🖖🌏🌍🌎
Diese Grafik ist auf den ersten Blick immer wieder erstaunlich, vor allem wenn man bedenkt dass Deutschland größer geworden ist und sich die Anzahl der Kraftfahrzeuge im selben Zeitraum verdreifacht hat. Für die "Vision Zero" der Autohersteller ist es jedoch noch ein weiter Schritt. Gurte, Airbags und Kindersitze schützen nur die Fahrzeuginsassen. Bei der Vermeidung von Unfällen mit Fußgängern und Radfahrern hilft vor allem mehr Abstand und eine Temporeduzierung, da ist natürliche Intelligenz gefragt.

Good Information.. It will be good to show improvement(ELR, Load limiters & Pretensioner) in Seal belt marked with year of introduction. So that we can easily understand the reason for reduction in fatalities after the Peak (between 1990-93).. Thank you..

Belts are live saver #1. 💪 Even more impressive if you consider number of licended vehicles in the same period: 1976 ~19Mio (1976) vs 60Mio (2023).
