Recently I moderated a panel discussion on "Making #India the Next #Semiconductor #Hub: Are We #Ready?". To deepen our understanding and stimulate robust dialogue, I posed a series of thought-provoking questions (see links to the list of questions posed and session's recording below). These questions were designed to explore the multifaceted aspects of India's aspirations in the semiconductor #industry, from policy and #investment challenges to #innovation and #talent development. We uncovered some vital insights that paved the way for India's role in the global semiconductor industry. One key takeaway is that while the global #chip #shortage may no longer be a pressing issue, the complexities of #geopolitics continue to shape the semiconductor landscape. Interestingly, there is a natural trend toward #decentralizing semiconductor manufacturing, which was previously concentrated in a few global hotspots. As more countries invest in this sector, we might see a relaxation in geopolitical #tensions, but this is contingent on sustained #global effort. Another interesting takeaway is that, financially, even the USA's and Europe's significant investment falls short of what's needed to match #Taiwan's capabilities, highlighting that India's current investment, although substantial, is just a starting point. The panel emphasized that our aim shouldn't necessarily be to outpace Taiwan but to contribute meaningfully to a #balanced #global #semiconductor #ecosystem. The discussions also highlighted a critical need for a shift in mindset within India—from being #job #seekers to #job #creators, and from mere knowledge acquisition to #innovation and #monetization. This shift is essential for transitioning from traditional models to more #research and development-driven initiatives. We need to not only catch up but also potentially leapfrog in technological advancements to carve out a place for India on the future map of semiconductor leaders. Lastly, the challenge of #talent #development was universally acknowledged as a #global #bottleneck. India, with its vast pool of young talent, needs focused strategies to transform this demographic into a technologically adept workforce that can support ambitious semiconductor initiatives. As we look ahead, the road is both challenging and promising. Continued dialogue, investment, and strategic planning will be crucial in positioning India as a key player in the global semiconductor industry. The insights garnered from these discussions are crucial for anyone involved in or following the semiconductor sector, offering a comprehensive look at the strategic actions required for India to secure a competitive position globally. I hope we commit to not just participating in the global semiconductor narrative but actively shaping it. Feel free to share your thoughts. Today, we celebrate the incredible achievements of women engineers around the world and here at Adeia who continue to innovate and inspire. #INWED24 highlights the vital contributions of women in engineering, promoting diversity and encouraging the next generation of engineers. Guilian Gao, Distinguished Engineer in 3D Packaging here at Adeia, gave us some insight into her role as an engineer: Q: What advice would you give to young women who are considering a career in engineering? A: Be true to yourself. Do a thorough analysis to find out if your talent and your passion is in engineering. Engineering is hard work and is not for everyone. However, if you have the talent and the passion, then go for it. I have found my engineering career to be very rewarding. Q: Can you tell us a little about your upcoming book chapter? What does it mean for you and the Adeia team to have your work featured in such a comprehensive review of hybrid bonding? A: Hybrid bonding has emerged as the all-solid interconnection technology to enable the next generation of advanced interconnects. The Adeia team invented the technology and has been working on it for 20 years. The book “Direct Copper Interconnect for Advanced Semiconductor Technology” is the first comprehensive book dedicated to the technology. Laura Mirkarimi and I authored the centerpiece chapter: “Hybrid Bonding Process Technology.” It is truly rewarding to have the opportunity to share our knowledge with the semiconductor packaging community through the chapter. #WomenInEngineering #DiversityInTech

Do you know what 'imaginal cells' are? In a caterpillar, these cells are responsible for its transformation into a butterfly. Interestingly, the caterpillar’s current self fights against these cells, trying to maintain its status quo. This struggle is similar to our human experience. Our ego fights tooth and nail to preserve the idea of who we think we are and what we have. At the same time, we are constantly nudged towards creativity and exploring the unknown. This internal battle all happens within our minds. So how do we reconcile this? It begins and ends with going deeper into the awareness of what’s at play. In my upcoming masterclass, we’ll explore these themes and learn how to use our future visions as a powerful force that activates the present. This isn't about having all the answers, but about sharing the possibilities I see and am still exploring myself. Join me to dive into these questions: Why do our visions and dreams sometimes scare us? How can we use the concept of imaginal cells to transform our future? 🗓 Date: 24th July 🕐 Time: 1 PM BST / 8 AM EST 📋 Duration: 60-minute session + 30 minute optional Q&A 🔗 Register using the link in the comments #FutureVisions #Masterclass #PersonalGrowth #Creativity #Curiosity #LiveIntoYourBrilliance #ImaginalCells

"I love my bike. My bike is everything to me. My bike is my gym, my church, and my wheelchair. My bike is everything that I believe in going on in the Biosphere. It’s science, it’s technology, it’s the future, engineering, metallurgy - you name it, it’s right there in my bike. My bike is the most important and valuable thing that I have."—said Bill Walton, who died on Monday. Last week, I discussed the keynote of Horace Dediu, in "Is #Micromobility Love?"
