#publication We are thrilled to share our latest publication on friction stir alloying/processing. In this study we have successfully fabricated an Al-Fe alloy incorporating a nanosized Al13Fe4 phase using the innovative solid-state multiple pass friction stir alloying (FSA) technique. Our alloy underwent meticulous heat treatment at varying time-temperature conditions, uncovering remarkable insights. During annealing, the diffusion of Fe atoms played a pivotal role, resulting in the transformation of the coarse plate-shaped Al13Fe4 intermetallic phase into a spheroidized form. Over time, an intriguing phenomenon emerged: the spheroidized phase transitioned into an elliptical or small plate-like morphology, driven by specific growth processes along distinct planes. Our study also established a significant correlation between work hardening rate, IMC particle size, and mean interparticle spacing under diverse annealing conditions. This connection unveils new avenues for tailoring material properties through precise annealing strategies.
