Salespeople often look to the market to understand what to expect from their sales. They assume that if the market is looking good, then people are buying, and sales will be up; if the market is down, then people aren’t buying, and they will have a tough time making sales, but these are myths. One that a surprisingly high 80% of my polled audience last month called out. Sales is like mining for gold, it certainly helps if a large deposit is found and you can join the crowd and grab a piece for yourself. However, almost any miner can do that. The skilled miner uses his abilities to locate the gold where no one else is looking. While other miners curse their bad luck, the great miner collects his wealth. Sales is the same; don’t wait to jump on the “good market” rush. Use the poor market to pick up the opportunities the other salespeople are missing.
