📣 One of the five founding principles of Methane Guiding Principles is Transparency. We are therefore pleased to announce the release of our 2024 MGP Signatory Annual Reports which show how each of our methane emitting members are individually driving down methane emissions. In 2023 and into 2024, a focus of MGP signatories has been increased efforts of detection and measurement of methane emissions. The increased efforts came through the acceleration of leak detection and repair programs and use of different measurement technologies. 📉Each of the member reports highlights the methane reduction activities completed in 2023 and planned activities for 2024, and is aligned to each of the five Methane Guiding Principles which are: - continually reduce methane emissions - advance strong performance across the gas supply chain - improve accuracy of methane emissions data - advocate sound policy and - regulations on methane emissions and to improve transparency We are really enthused about the level of activities undertaken by all our members and how these collectively play a key role in global methane reduction efforts. 🌎 We welcome you to read the set of reports here: https://lnkd.in/de3hjQXN #ReduceMethaneEmissions #MethaneEmissions #ClimateAction #NetZero #MethaneGuidingPrinciples

How do we solve a problem we can't see? Easy. Really cool cameras and effective policy. That's the case for #methane, a potent climate-warming invisible gas that plays a huge role in what 2050 looks like for ALL OF US. I am very excited that our methane econ team's paper ("Policy Instrument Options for Addressing Methane Emissions from the Oil and Gas Sector") was featured as part of the Methane Guiding Principles resources for mitigating methane emissions. The paper gives policymakers an overview of the different policy levers available to reduce methane emissions from oil and gas systems. Simple, effective, cost-efficient (particularly for oil and gas)! What underlies almost all of these policies options? Leak detection, measurement, reporting, and verification. 💬 “We’re moving away from just discussing the detection and monitoring of methane emissions, and we’re actually talking about the reduction of methane and how that can be implemented. “We’re in the game of reducing methane emissions.” Matthew Williams, Methane Emissions Reduction Lead at National Gas Transmission and part of the Methane Mitigation Europe speaker faculty. #MethaneMitigationSummit

Quantifying methane emissions. It is a new requirement for the pipeline industry in the EU Methane Regulation. 📃 Don't know where to start? As a certified third party, Intero - The Sniffers can help. 1. First, we detect methane emissions on buried infrastructure on foot, by car, and with other innovative solutions. 2. After a leak indication is found, we immediately verify the leak during the same inspection run. Immediate verification is key to guaranteeing correct and accurate data. 3. Finally, we quantify using Best Available Techniques. Click on the link in the first comment to discover more on our website. 👇 #pipelineleakdetection #ghg #ogmp

This year, lawmakers in Colorado considered several bills that could significantly disrupt regulatory procedures, lead to additional costs for the state and businesses, and potentially act as a drag on efforts to cut emissions. However, as highlighted in the this article 👇 by the members of the Payne Institute for Public Policy, policymakers, companies and environmental groups came up with a compromise solution that would allow necessary regulatory measures to move forward. And it's not the only instance in Colorado: in 2023, the adoption of the GHG intensity verification was a result of a consensus between the same stakeholders (https://lnkd.in/esnTwmry). In this regard, Colorado is standing out among the US states and, perhaps, globally, and could be viewed as a model of collaboration between multiple stakeholders to advance emission reductions. #colorado #unitedstates #regulations #emissions #oilandgas #airquality #upstream
Our Payne Institute for Public Policy Director Morgan Bazilian, Deputy Director Gregory Clough, PMP, and Responsible Gas Policy and Outreach Advisor Simon Lomax look at Colorado's continued leadership on regulating methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. It will require ongoing, difficult, and thoughtful political discussion. "Colorado’s leadership on methane emissions survives another challenge" #methane #emissions https://lnkd.in/gGaT_MA7

#ICYMI 🤝 DOE and international partners are collaborating to develop a transparent and credible framework for the measurement, monitoring, reporting, and verification of methane and carbon dioxide emissions that occur during natural gas production, processing, transport, and use. This partnership will help drive international efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the natural gas supply chain. It also supports the Biden-Harris Administration’s U.S. Methane Emissions Reduction Action Plan and pledge that the United States will work with global partners to reduce the world’s #methane emissions. 🤝 Learn more: https://bit.ly/3No1oed
