How do we solve a problem we can't see? Easy. Really cool cameras and effective policy. That's the case for #methane, a potent climate-warming invisible gas that plays a huge role in what 2050 looks like for ALL OF US.   I am very excited that our methane econ team's paper ("Policy Instrument Options for Addressing Methane Emissions from the Oil and Gas Sector") was featured as part of the Methane Guiding Principles resources for mitigating methane emissions.   The paper gives policymakers an overview of the different policy levers available to reduce methane emissions from oil and gas systems. Simple, effective, cost-efficient (particularly for oil and gas)!   What underlies almost all of these policies options? Leak detection, measurement, reporting, and verification. This year, lawmakers in Colorado considered several bills that could significantly disrupt regulatory procedures, lead to additional costs for the state and businesses, and potentially act as a drag on efforts to cut emissions. However, as highlighted in the this article 👇 by the members of the Payne Institute for Public Policy, policymakers, companies and environmental groups came up with a compromise solution that would allow necessary regulatory measures to move forward. And it's not the only instance in Colorado: in 2023, the adoption of the GHG intensity verification was a result of a consensus between the same stakeholders (https://lnkd.in/esnTwmry). In this regard, Colorado is standing out among the US states and, perhaps, globally, and could be viewed as a model of collaboration between multiple stakeholders to advance emission reductions. #colorado #unitedstates #regulations #emissions #oilandgas #airquality #upstream

This partnership will help drive international efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the natural gas supply chain.
