For years, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America and our member companies have worked to reduce methane emissions and modernize America’s energy infrastructure across the storage and transmission sector. Today, I am proud to share INGAA’s 2023 Climate Report, which details the significant steps the industry has taken to ensure natural gas infrastructure is part of the clean energy future. I am also pleased to share that our efforts are succeeding. As detailed in this year’s report, INGAA members achieved a commendable methane intensity of 0.077% in 2021, meaning more than 99.9% of #naturalgas transported through INGAA members’ assets reached its intended destination. Additionally, total methane emissions from INGAA’s membership were less than 1% of all methane emitted in the United States in 2021 at 0.949%. For the first time, INGAA has also created a GHG scorecard to assess INGAA members’ collective progress towards meeting our Climate Commitments and reducing emissions across operations, a demonstration of our pledge to transparency and consistent reporting. While we celebrate these accomplishments across the transmission and storage sector, our work does not end here. We look forward to continuing our efforts, in conjunction with others, to enable greater information sharing across our industry and ultimately deliver a cleaner energy future we all support. At #COP28, we announced a step up in our activity on methane detection and flaring to help more companies reduce methane emissions from their operations. Tackling methane emissions is important to meeting climate goals. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), methane emissions from venting, fugitives and flaring accounts for almost half of the oil and gas industry’s total Scope 1 and 2 emissions. That’s why OGCI’s action on methane emissions has focused on two critical foundations: detection and measurement, and tackling flaring. Our work includes: 1. Expanding our flagship Satellite Monitoring Campaign to cover twice as many assets and countries 2. Working with the The World Bank’s Global Flaring and Methane Reduction (GFMR) Partnership and Payne Institute for Public Policy to launch a more accessible platform on global gas flaring data. Renewable power is at the heart of achieving international energy and climate goals 💚 At #COP28, countries decided to triple global renewable power capacity by 2030. A new analysis by International Energy Agency (IEA) has good news: the tripling target is ambitious but achievable - if all countries turn commitments into actions through bold new national climate plans. 👉Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/3x5NzfD

🌳👎Petrobras is failing on Paris climate goals Back in November 2023, the International Energy Agency said the oil and gas industry faced a “moment of truth” — a choice between contributing to a worsening climate crisis or becoming part of the solution by embracing the transition to clean energy. A new report from the financial climate think tank Carbon Tracker suggests which side Big Oil has picked. Instead of pulling back, the sector is poised to develop enough new oil and gas resources to push up global average surface temperatures more than 2°C by the end of the century. Carbon Tracker graded the 25 largest publicly traded oil and gas companies according to the extent to which they align with the Paris Agreement’s climate goals. The results are ominous. Based on metrics that included production plans, emissions targets, and investment options, not a single company was deemed compliant. 🔗Read more in our full article by Gustavo Ribeiro here 👇 https://lnkd.in/exEqFAeF #ClimateChange #OilandGas #Petrobras

Methane is one of the most powerful heat-trapping gases — 28 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, so it is imperative to reduce or eliminate methane emissions wherever we can in our efforts to address climate change. SLR's air quality team has international leaders in methane emissions measurement, characterization, and strategic mitigations. In February, Matthew Harrison, Senior Principal, traveled to the UK to team up with Roshan Khan, SLR’s Energy Transition Lead for Energy Advisory in the UK, to attend the 2024 Methane Mitigation – Europe Conference in Amsterdam. Thanks to Matt Harrison and his team, SLR's global leadership in the field of methane mitigation and management is established and growing. Multiple industry speakers at the conference referred to SLR’s work in this area, particularly our contribution to the Methane Guiding Principles Coalition's recently updated Best Practices guidance, which helps more than 45 international organizations reduce methane emissions from the natural gas supply chain. Read the Best Practices guidance we contributed to here: https://lnkd.in/gJzT2M5V If you are interested in working with our team of experts who are leading conversations around energy transition and reducing the global fossil-fuel emissions, contact us. #MethaneMitigation #MethaneReduction #SLRContributes #SustainabilityLeaders #ClimateAction
