This World Environment Day we're proud to celebrate our role in the MethaneSAT mission. Launched in March, this state-of-the art satellite is designed to detect global methane emissions. 🛰   Being part of MethaneSAT puts New Zealand researchers at the forefront of work to detect and measure agricultural emissions from space. The atmospheric science programme is being led by NIWA Principal Scientist Dr Sara Mikaloff-Fletcher.   New Zealand is also operating the satellite’s mission operations control centre, established by Rocket Lab and being transferred to Te Pūnaha Ātea - Space Institute later this year. This adds a significant piece of infrastructure and builds our capability to operate complex space missions in future.    Learn more about New Zealand’s role in the research and operations for the MethaneSAT mission and how we’re making a practical contribution to global climate change efforts 👇 https://lnkd.in/gxQMS2Hc  #WorldEnvironmentDay

Congratulations New Zealand space!! Can’t wait to see the data and information that flows from MethaneSAT and how it shapes our approach to climate change for decades to come.
