One of the consequences of remote hiring is the sheer volume of applicants for an open job. A Remote Account Executive role advertising a competitive salary can have over 1000 applicants within days 🤯 . It renders online applications practically useless for job seekers, and has negative effects on the employer side as well. 😡 Job seekers get lost in the shuffle and compound the problem by rage applying to as many open positions as possible. 😩 Internal hiring teams get overwhelmed, and can’t commit resources to passive candidate recruitment. The new expectation for talented sales reps is to go above and beyond. Cold call the hiring manager/ send a personalized video/ network with other AEs on the team and demonstrate deep knowledge of the product, industry and customer base. Just to get an interview. 🙃 ⌛ But this is a serious time commitment–one that a gainfully employed, high performing, highly qualified seller doesn’t necessarily have time for. These types of candidates need representation–so they can be matched with ideal companies and so that hiring managers don’t miss out. 👇 northlightstaff.com

Recruiter: This job is fully remote. Me: Great. How long have you been hiring for this company? Recruiter: Around 2 years. Me: Cool. How many people have you hired? Recruiter: Around 8. Me: Are they all with the business still? Recruiter. 2. - the other 6 left. Me. Hmmm. Would you work for them? Recruiter: If I had too! But I've got a young family and working in London 8-6pm wouldn't suit me. Me: I thought the role was remote? Recruiter: What. Me: What 👀 It's pretty easy to spot a fake remote job with the right questions. Stop selling remote if it isn't remote! The bait and switch doesn't work!

Communication is key in recruiting, especially for remote positions. If you’re recruiting remote talent, clear communication can make or break the process. Here’s how to get it right: Set Clear Expectations: Be upfront about timelines, interview stages, and the tools you’ll use. When candidates know what’s coming, they feel more in control and engaged. Regular Updates: Radio silence kills interest. Keep candidates in the loop. Whether it’s a quick “We’re still reviewing” or “Next steps are on the way,” timely updates show respect for their time. Gather Feedback: Want to know if you’re doing remote right? Ask! Candidate feedback helps you spot what’s working and where you can improve. Keep it simple. Communicate clearly. And make the process as seamless as possible.
