I create organizing strategy, organizing education and programs to disrupt white supremacy culture for social justice organizations, unions and nonprofits.
I was so touched when an organizer said this about my organizing education series for Virginia Interfaith Power & Light: "Mira was enlightening and encouraging. I understand better what is expected of me as an organizer. The strategies Mira showed us how to develop for organizing will help us build our power structures and bases!" Margaret McLeod-Cain is a longtime leader in her community and a new organizer. She organizes for #ClimateJustice with members of many faith traditions in her community in central Virginia. In designing this organizing education series for the VAIPL team, executive director Faith B Harris and I wanted to introduce or reintroduce several concepts to the team: Organizing is bringing people together to build power. Organizing ≠ mobilizing The power is in the relationship. Apparently it worked! In our final workshop together, Margaret's words made my heart sing. The combination of workshops and small group coaching seemed to hit the mark. The sessions I developed for VAIPL were: Organizing 101 One-on-one meetings First Step Community Outreach Building Powerful Actions (a.k.a. turnout) Volunteer Recruitment and Management Organizing Strategy Development Each session was followed by a small group coaching session to reinforce the concepts and think through real-life applications. Working with this team was a highlight of 2023! I can't wait to see the power they build for climate justice in Virginia. Has someone ever reacted to your work in exactly they way you hoped?
