Here at the NSC Road to Zero Annual Meeting and for two days of working with advocates, congressional leaders and committees on how we can make our roadways safer for all. What a great way to kick off our week and Capitol Hill fly-in with Secretary Pete and NSC CEO Lorraine Martin along with a packed house of safety advocates. The Secretary shared his thoughts on where we are today and what the future can look like if we continue to press on the critical safety issues and work to change both behaviors and culture. The lense we look at roadway safety and traffic violence is changing, still we need to find ways to accelerate the progress to prevent harm and further improve our National Roadway Safety Strategy (NRSS) # Roadtozero #Visionzero #Saferroads #SafeSpeed #Safety

It's Pedestrian Safety Month! Here at the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), we're dedicated to raising awareness and providing valuable reminders to help keep you safe as you travel. Whether you're attending one of our events, reading an article, or simply noticing our safety campaigns, we hope these messages serve as an important reminder to stay vigilant. At some point in the day, we are all pedestrians. This is why pedestrian safety is a key component of our highway safety efforts. Together, let's make our roads safer for everyone, one step at a time. #PedestrianSafety #SafetyFirst #GOHS #HighwaySafety #StaySafe #NHTSA For more information about one event, click here. 🚶♀️ October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! 🚶♂️ Cannella Snyder is joining the U.S. Department of Transportation in raising awareness about pedestrian safety. The Safe System Approach prioritizes eliminating crashes that result in death and serious injury. While human error is inevitable, our transportation systems can be designed and operated to account for these mistakes and protect lives. The key principles of the Safe System Approach include: ▶️ Death and Serious Injury are Unacceptable: No one should suffer serious harm when using our roads. ▶️ Humans Make Mistakes: Systems can be designed to accommodate errors and prevent fatal consequences. ▶️ Responsibility is Shared: All stakeholders have a role in ensuring safer roads for everyone. ▶️ Safety is Proactive: We must address risks before they lead to crashes. 🔗 For more on how communities can support pedestrian safety, check out the NHTSA Pedestrian Safety Resource Guide here: https://lnkd.in/g5ReZq9v #PedestrianSafety #WalkSafely #RoadSafety #ArriveAlive

Does your agency use LED enhanced signs? Awesome🙏 LEDs are a highly effective way to improve sign conspicuity, and they're FHWA-approved for a variety of standard, warning, and guide signs. But! As of Jan. 18, 2026 (or earlier, if your state adopts the new MUTCD), LEDs *cannot* be used to indicate when reduced speed limits are in effect, including on S5-1 "School Speed Limit When Flashing" (S5-1) signs. (For that, you need a circular yellow flashing beacon—something we can also help with!) Have questions about where to use LEDs and beacons to increase sign conspicuity, driver awareness, and overall roadway safety? Get in touch 📧 traffic@carmanah.com

June is #NationalSafetyMonth – the annual observance to help keep each other safe from the workplace to any place. Today we are spotlighting roadway safety. From speeding to impairment to distraction, it’s important to speak up about roadway risks. The choices we make behind the wheel can create safer roads for everyone. If you or someone you know has been injured in a motor vehicle accident, you may need representation and be entitled to compensation. Learn more: inserra.com. #NSM

Is it possible to eliminate all roadway fatalities and serious injuries? The Safe System Approach has been used as a guide to try to accomplish that in communities around the world for decades. Learn more about how the method of rethinking roadway design to build a safer transportation system for all road users is gaining steam in North American in our latest Experts Talk interview with our senior transportation engineer Beth Wemple and traffic engineer Olivia Polinsky. https://lnkd.in/gnZ7cig3 #VisionZero #RoadSafety

For all my contacts working to save lives in rural communities… check out this resource from my colleagues at NHTSA! We can improve crash prevention as well as the critical EMS and 911 systems that respond to save before, during and after the crash in these communities! Does your 911 system have the resources they need to impact all 5 aspects of the safe system approach? Is your EMS leveraging best practices to save additional lives? Are you doing something innovative that others should know about? Together we can move towards zero deaths on our roadways!
At National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA, we just released resources for rural communities to improve road safety. This is a fantastic resource with ideas to improve safety outcomes in rural America. Fatal crashes on rural roads are overrepresented in the crash data--about half of the fatalities on the roads in the US occur on rural roads despite only 20% of the people living there. Thank you to the team who worked on this document. https://lnkd.in/egvu3AjH
